gfo and carbon in baffles

guys do you know if carbon and gfo will be effective if placed in a mesh bag inbetween the baffles of the sump?
I don't have a reactor currently and would like to use the baffles to house the gfo and carbon.

would this be effective? the flow thru the sump will be approx 300-400gph, I have a 75g DT.

It depends on whether you can get the water to flow through it and not just around the bag.
