Got a free tank for my classroom :) A decent looking 55 gallon. The hood didnt come with any bulbs and it doesn't say anywhere on it what size/wattage to get! All I know is that it's a Perfecto hood and that I need T8....Here are some pics:

[welcome]

This is a marine fish forum. If you are doing a fresh tank, standard NO power compacts would be fine.

If your asking what size bulbs, I think they are 18 " and the length of the bulb determines the wattage.

I did measure the "clearance" and it's 23.5".....I assume that a 24" bulb would fit??

Hope you are not planning on doing a reef tank with that lighting.

To answer your original question and not critique like some have already started to do; you are correct in that you will need 2 24" bulbs & they are T12's, you should be able to find them at your LFS.......

And in addition, the lights would be fine for a fish only system (saltwater).

Yes 24" T8's your local fish store should have them also home depot lowells manards should even carry them,
also I think it great that your willing to invest your free time and money in a tank for your students regardless if its fresh or salt
