I am just wondering if there are any urchins that are actually OK in a small reef? I've got a 55 and would love to have a single small urchin in there if possible...but I don't want it to eat the good stuff either...or get too large....

I really like Salmacis bicolor. Doesn't get too big, doesn't carry around frags/rocks, and doesn't eat corals (well, except gorgonians).

my understanding is urchins and anenomes are best left reserved for after the tank is at least 1 year old to ensure the biological processes in the tank are fully established!! I have a 55g too and would definately be interested, but, I"m only on my 9th week.. 43 weeks to go.....

tuxedo urchin is reef safe.

+1 but like mentioned above its best to get them after the tank is mature for the best survival.

You can feed them pieces of nori algae. I would go with a royal tuxedo. They can be a nice blue color and won't get too big.
