I got a free 1 gallon hex ( i think its a 1 gallon)

Anywho i was going to try a mini reef. Should i leave the plexy hood on ?( might cut down on evap ? I was planing a 10 watt 50/50 bulb.

And i dont know how much LR i guess what ever in my 10 gallon qt that dosnt have aiptaisa.

Could i have sps ? what about 1 lil clown goby ? Or what would you recomend ? I just want some life in there moving.

For filteration i have a 2-5 gallon tetra intank filter. ( yea its big but it was free also.)

I might get the azoo palm filter for 9 bucks though. More room in the tank.

WHat do you guys think?

show a picture of the tank so we know what you have to work with. also try posting in the nano reefs section. if you want sps somehow do something to be able to have a sump and skimmer. also if your heart is set on sps look into LEDs.

If you can keep SPS in a one-gallon tank I will be astonished.

How would you manage the fluctuations in water quality?

Your best bet is to do w/c from a larger tank, which it sounds like you must have..? That way you don't have to worry so much about trying to maintain the stability and mixing SW to precise readings. Still, it will be kind of difficult. No fish, maybe a few snails and a shrimp, some softies. If it was me, I would find one really cool shaped piece of LR for an island.

I think SPS and many other coral, fish and inverts are out of the question with such a small tank and the fluctuations you'll have.

But not everything is out of the question. Some species which can be found in tidal areas may work with care. Some zoas and palythoa could survive if you don't let things swing too much although the zoas might need more light.

sounds cool, i found a small plastic tank that is probably less than a gallon that iv been thinking about taking to my apartment when i move out this summer, i was thinking about trying sps and having a five gallon sump with live rock and maybe a SMALL fish in, not sure yet however
if you are going to do a sps tank, i would think 10w for one gallon of water would be good, most people like to say about 3-5w per gallon for sps so i think your good on that stand point, personally, like i stated above, a sump would be a good idea to try and reduce swings in water peramiters, but if your thinking fishless i would assume the pH would be more stable

good luck
