Hi guys,

Given that the lights were pulled from the market fairly quickly, I'm not sure how many people have the Solaris lights, but this is the always the best place to ask anything.

Despite the various (extremely valid) complaints about the Solaris, it's generally worked well for me. I've always put it on the mounting legs it comes with, but, being that I'm upgrading to a much larger tank with a canopy, I'd like to know if anyone here has managed to hang this thing or otherwise mount it in a canopy.

As my new tank is twice the width of my current tank, I'm also buying an AI LED lamp which appears to be similar to the Solaris in dimension, but I believe this comes with a hanging kit.

Anyone with any experience with this?

I have a Solaris in a wood canopy but my light is sized in respect to the tank. I could not use the legs for the light and there is no hanging kit, just a couple of eye hooks provided. Since your tank is larger then your light, you will not have the added concern that I had. Being that the Solaris exhaust from the ends of the unit, I had to cut ventilation holes on the sides of my canopy so that the unit would not overheat.

Great! I was afraid that no one had actually done this.

I actually don't remember anything coming with the light, but it was so long ago that I'd have no idea where I put it anyway. Could you let me know how you got yours mounted into the canopy? I've actually never used a hanging kit and looking at my unit, I have no idea where the eye hooks would go.

Thanks for the help!

Not great pics and my camera battery is drained. These are some from my photobucket account.
Basically, since the interior of my canopy is the same width of the fixture, I cut rectangular vent holes out of the solid oak sides and capped it off with matching oak heating grates that they sell in Home Depot & Lowes.
Even if the fixture would fit, I would still need to do this for the air circulation of the fixture. All my other LED fixtures blows downward from the top, Solaris Arggg.......
So I nailed in a 1/2" strip of wood on each side as stoppers to support the heavy fixture. you should not have this problem since your fixture is much shorter then the length of your tank.

Here's a picture of an I5 fixture that I hung over a different tank. This is just to show you that there are machine holes on either ends topside of the fixture that accepts eye hook bolts or in my case, I used a hanging kit from my previous TEK fixture:
