Just wanted to know which return pump would work for my 60G Mixed Reef setup.

The return is connected inline via 3/4" spa hose to a 25W aqua UW and an Aquamedic Titan 1HP chiller and then into the main display..total head about 4.5'.

Sump volume approx 20G.

Something of note is i would like to upgrade to a 150G in a year or so...

Any pump other than the Eheim 1260 or 1262 that you'll could recommend?

I use a 1260 on my 60 cube, and it is valved down about 1/3 from full flow. you'll probably still have capacity to use it for 150. The only difference between 1260 and 1262 is the pump covert (part number 7443670) which you can get from eheimparts.com for $9.20 to convert a 1260 to a 1262.

Thanks.

You mean that the flow goes up 300G with that covert?

The 1262 will be a little too much on your 60g because at 4.5' you'll be getting about 600g of flow back into your tank. You could always dial it down a bit or connect a T and valve to the return line to return some water through a fuge or just back into your sump area. I'm not sure if that would work with your spa hose but you could try fiddling around with it.

It would be perfect for your 150 though.

There are about 5 or 6 90deg elbows as well which will reduce the flow somewhat...

...is 600G flow too much for a return?

The common consensus is that flow through your sump should be 3-5x the DT volume. A very high flow rate will affect your skimming ability and fuge ability to process whatever you feed it.

I believe I read that each 90 degree elbow is worth a foot of head loss, you might want to recheck that. Using 45 degree elbows are better when it comes to head loss.

Interesting...

The elbows are on my inlet and outlet of the UV, chiller and on the tank return pipe...

Typo, it should be cover. And yes, by simply changing the cover (or volute as some call it), flow will increase by 300gph. I know, I run both 1260 and 1262 and have switched the cover to see the difference.
