I have a 72 bow rr and the megaflow kit --- I have a mag9 return ... My question is how low does the drain have to be below the overflow??

As much as I turn down the output I still get gurgling ... Also I can feel the air sputter out if the drain vent - do you think I should drill it bigger to let out more air??? Thanks guys

That's tuff to do, What I would recommend is altering your drain with something like the gurgle buster (http://home.everestkc.net/jrobertson57268/HGB/) there are others out there but this is the first one that popped in my mind.

A mag 9.5 is too much flow for a standard megaflo kit. They are rated at ~600 GPH, you either need to dial back the pump a lot or get a smaller pump (mag 7 or eheim 1260). The drain only needs to be like 2" bellow the surface of the overflow, and that is mainly to limit any algae from growing in/on the overflow.

For an ultra quiet drain system, you should check out this link

It would work perfectly for your system and wouldn't require a new pump. The siphon drain will easily handle the proposed flow.

Im going to try the gurgle buster first and then if that fails i will go with the herbie - i have about 5 more weeks of cycling so i have time to play with all the plumbing ... i hope something with works .... quick question the larger the air hole in the top the more air it sucks in or pushes out??
