ive got this chalice in my tank that looked fine one day, and 14 hour later when the tank lights came on it was almost half gone with long peices of flesh stringing off of it.

water params
sg 1.025
magnesium 1450
dkh 10-11
calcium 480
temp 80
ph 8.2
ammonia undetectable
nitrate greater than 0 but less than 5 (2 different test kits)
tank has been running for 5 months

the chalice is placed mid tank, medium flow under 250 watt 14k mh.

i took it out of the tank, cut it in half to remove the bad parts, dipped it in kent tech d for 7 min, put the good half of the chalice back in the dt at the bottom in a shady spot, and put the other half in my QT.

No other corals in the dt show any signs of illness, but i am wondering what could cause this to happen overnight on a coral i have had for 2 months that had been showing no signs of distress, i had cut a peice off for a friend about a month ago and the cut area was already healed, and the flesh sloughing off had started opposite from where i cut it.

possibly too much light. Chalices in general are a low light coral

i thought about that, so after i cut it i moved it to the sand. the peice i cut off is completetly gone today and the one in the dt, looks like it might make it, knock on wood
