Right now I have a pair of gold striped maroons, a gold midas blenny, sixline wrasse, and a flame angel in my 46g mixed reef. I'd like to add another fish -- something w/ good color and personality.

I'd love to have a flame hawk, but I've got a peppermint shrimp and a cleaner shrimp. My tank is too small for tangs and anthias and large angels; I'm not up to trying a butterfly; I don't want any damsels, chromis or pajama cardinals; I'm afraid of starving a mandarin goby, although I'd love to have one; dartfish and firefish are sorta boring to me; I had an orchid dottyback at one time but it didn't always get along so great with the sixline. . .

Anyone have suggestions?

Banggai cardinals nice fish, i have one in my 60 gallon. Royal grammas are pretty sharp as well. Yellow watchman gobies tend to have alot of personality once they get established.

Honestly, with having a pair of GSM and a 6-line, I would leave your tank as is. Both are very aggressive and won't take too kindly to any new addition(s)

If I didn't have shrimp, how do you think a flame hawk would do?

With no shrimp, that fish would do well. Actually, with shrimp, the fish would do well, but the shrimp might not appreciate the new neighbor.
