View Full Version : Randy's Alkalinity in Bulk?

Anyone making Randy's Recipe #1 Alkalinity part in bulk?

The reason I ask is that I have a 5.38L jug that is perfect for this.

The recipe calls for 2.25 cups of baking soda for 1 gallon of RO/DI water.

1 gallon is 3.785 litres.

So for my 5.38L jug, assuming a proportional relationship, I want to add 3.189 cups of baking soda. I rounded up to 3.2 cups, and went ahead and made up the solution.

The baking soda (after baked for an hour at 300F) completely dissolved in the water, so I assume it is probably okay to go ahead and use.

Any thoughts?

Cheers,

Dave

Sounds good. ;)

I know my math is right, I just want to make sure there isn't anything from a chemistry standpoint that may affect the solution. Better to be safe than sorry.

I dosed my tank with it last night, and I got the expected Alkalinity increase, so it looks like all is well.

I may end up making this stuff up in even greater quantities as well.

There's no quantity effect, in this case. :)

Thanks guys!

Can the same be said for the Calcium and Magnesium solutions?

Yup, you can increase the batch size with the same math with no problems.

I agree.

Sweet!

Anyone make this stuff in very large quantities? For example, storing 20-30 gallons in a Brute container?

Cheers,

Dave

I make 4 gallons at a time, and doing so works just fine. It beats "baking" so often.
