I recently set up at 50 gallon tank that has a built in overflow on the whole back of the tank. this is where my heater and skimmer and everything is.
My skimmer is pretty junky, and is loud, so i am thinking about maybe putting in a sump so i can use a better skimmer.

The left side of the tank has some slits cut in it for the water to pour out into the back, and then on the far right side there is a pump on the bottom that pumps that water back in to the top right of the tank.

Is this considered a overflow? or will i need to purchase a hang on the back type overflow? any sump recommendations?

Any advice is appreciated

unfortunately unless there are holes drilled into the back or bottom of the tank this isn't an overflow and you will need to get some sort of overflow system to feed into a sump. It is a nice little area to hide all of the equipment though. I would look into replacing the skimmer before looking into a whole sump setup. May be cheaper and better for the tank anyway. HTH
