Anybody keep them? Coral eaters or not? Thinking about one in a mixed 180 reef. Thanks, John.

we aren't keeping them in a reef, but the tank contains a few softies...Palythoa, zoanthids, GSP, a small leather. they've never eaten anything but appies and the food we add. they DO pick on clam mantles tho...

The 2 I've seen in reefs, ate LPS corals after they finished off the aiptasia and majano.

I assume your talking about Acreichthys Tomentosus-- the green Bristletail Filefish, and not the green filefish Monacanthus ciliatus

Anyway, my experience has been they both will pick on fleshy corals, and as Greg mentions they will nip at clam mantles. But they are great feeders on aiptasia

Common names are difficult at best

I just had to fish a Tomentosus out of my tank.

He was picking at 3 of my brain corals. Left torch and hammer alone, and never touch aiptasia either -_-

i find that if ours get fed too well, they leave appies alone. fortunately, they're kinda shy, so they tend to not mix it up with the strong feeders...they prefer to stay on the "outskirts" of the feeding frenzy.

they did take on a gorgeous green color due to the Ulva growing in their system tho:

I'm going to skip it then, seeing my tank is LPS dominated. Thanks for the replies.
