View Full Version : Do split returns provide better flow?

I ordered a 60 gallon tank with a built in overflow, the overflow came bigger than I expected so I am thinking about splitting my return inside the overflow to provide flow to more areas of the tank, (basic Y inside the overflow, drill another hole for a second return) is this no good? Should I be more concerned with the flow I am losing from splitting it? Return is a Quiet1 4000HH, drain is 1.5", return is 3/4", and I will be adding 2 Koralia 4s (one on the bottom - bare bottom) I want an SPS tank but will be upgrading within the year to a 180, this is just to start collecting frags and growing them after which I will prob turn this into a softie tank...also what do you guys think about those "flow accelerators"? all hype? do they work? Please let me know what you think, thanks in advance...

I use eductors with sea swirls. Increase flow in tank 4x while decreasing flow through sump. What's not to love?

You may want to put in a second one if you feel your overflow is not getting enough.

You are going to have alot of flow in that one area.
