I am contemplating doing a hyposalinity treatment on my DT with my sick fish in it to eliminate all the ick.
My concern is for my LR and LS what exactly will die in my LR and LS and will it disrupt my biological filter?
I have removed my inverts, corals, and a little bit of LR and placed them in a type of QT i have setup that is a 30g with 40 lbs LS which is running great.
Any comments would be appreciated!
PS I might be new to this forum but i am pretty knowledgable in the hobby.

What are you dosing the tank with? Most meds are not reef safe however, there are a few that have limited success like Primafix and Melafix Marine. A QT tank is normaly left bare of sand and rock due to meds being absorbed into the media or most to prevent the life on the rock and sand from dying. Formalin and Copper are some of the more effective meds, they can not be used with live rock and live sand.

I hypod my display to get rid of aptaisa and it worked great. I took out the fish because I figured that it would get nasty with all of the die off, but left the CUC. Most everything made it through ok, I did lose my conch and a couple of astreas but all the crabs and most snails made it. As far as the rock and sand, I lost all of the little worms and things like that, if it doesn't have a hard shell it will more than likely die. I did this back in december and I haven't had any problems with aptaisa or bubble algea since then, just be careful what you put back in.

hey tahoe thanks for the input and i have already started my first day of hypo in my display i brought it down from 1.023 to 1.014
the reason i am choosing hypo is because i do not like the effects of copper on fish in the long term and i do not wont it to some how contaminate any of my tanks for fear of my corals
i also will dose the tank with either rid ich or para guard for the first 2 weeks of hypo to ensure a faster kill off of all ich and then like week 3 or 4 i will dose with melafix to cure the lesions if any on the fish then continue to monitor for ick the last 2 weeks
meanwhile my corals and inverts are enjoying their 30g lol
