Okay so im in the process of starting up my 1st marine tank!
i managed to get a really cheap tank from one of my older brothers friends, the tank was pretty dirty and had been dry for quite a while but the tank itself was in pretty good condition, only a couple scratches and it came with the tank, stand, sump, skimmer, return pump and all the plumbing needed.

i'm still learning about how to set up and maintain a marine tank but my older brother is helping me out, he has a 50Gal marine himself and is helping me buy some of the stuff we need to get this baby up and running, my parents have also kindly helped me out by buying the lights! more on that later
okay so the tank is 120 Gallons, the dimensions are as follows
we live in New Zealand so we use metric here:
120cms long, 60cms deep, 60cms high
but for the rest of you all over the world:
4ft long, 24 inch deep, 24 inch high
the tank also has two corner overflows and we plan on changing them to durso stands to reduce noise.

havent measured the dimensions of the sump bout im guessing its about 150L or 40G

we plan on asking our grandpa to make some walls and doors for the cabinet as he is a retired cabinetmaker, Perfect!
After a good clean of the glass and some of the stand, we decided we didn't like the bright blue background
after about 10 hours of scraping split between me and my brother over 3 days, the tank was finally clean and ready for its new paint job!
Black!
in the mean time we had also been doing some aquascaping mock ups, not quite sure what we will finally do but we think the two islands look is the way to go

after we mocked up the aquascaping we made some small changes and then stuck everything together using a reef safe plaster from our LFS, pretty cheap and alot easier than drilling or pegging
some of you may notice that we are using mostly base *dead* rock to scape this tank, in New Zealand there are strict importing laws due to bio security or somthing, anyone who has been here knows how mental they are about fruit, seeds etc, so long story short cant import live rock and we got all of this base rock really cheap
we have one large piece of live rock which we will use also
