My male lyretail has developed a lump on his head right between the eyes. Yesterday the lump was puffy and why in the center, now its red and sunken like a crater. He is exhibiting no other symptoms. He swims fine, eat well and is breathing normal. His color seems normal. He is in QT with 3 females. Hes very camera shy, i swear he knows what im tryin to do. His 3 friends are little starlets though, they keep trying to get into the pictures. This is the best i can do.

Marine 'Hole in the head syndrome'? More common in fresh water but also effects marine.

This isnt disease help but instead photography help... clean the dried salt off the outside of the glass. Your camera is focusing on it and not the fish. You'll get MUCH better pictures once you have that done.

Now that you mention it, that does make sense. lol. ill try that when i get home tomorrow. Thanks!

I dont think its Hole in the Head. Its weird. It started out like a big lump but the middle of the lump was white and fluffly looking, then it caved in and is red but still looks like a lump from the side.

Today again the hole is bigger. I dont know what else to do besides keeping the water clean. HITH isnt contagious right?

I'd suggest treating with a dip for a fungal and bacterial infection. White/puffy sounds like something fungal, but there may be something else going on in addition. The growth maybe popped which is why the color changed.

As far as contagious, no idea without knowing what it is... but best to treat as if it could be.

Well he didn't make it. The hole got larger and he died. He had bite marks so I think the females did him in once he was in bad shape. The females all look good. I don't know what to do with them. I want to get them a new male. Do I leave them in qt and out him with them? Do I put them in the DT and qt the male alone? I don't even know what it was. Coulda been lateral line disease. I dunno.
