Came home tonight after being away all day and both my chevron and purple tangs are not looking good. The purple tang looks as though the color on his facial area has been scraped away. The Chevron also looks bad, but different from the purple tang. His fins, mainly right, has some white markings on it. Not white spots, so I don't think it is ick. Here are the best pics I could get right now. Any suggestions on what it is and treatment? Could these be injuries from fighting? Although they've gotten along fine ever since I've had them. All other fish, clowns, wrasses, Cbb are fine for now.

Are you using carbon in your filtration setup?

Yes, why do you ask? Is it related to their new markings/wounds?

Marine Head and Lateral Line Erosion, also known by the acronym MHLLE

I run 50lbs of pellitized AC in my 300g setup for biological filtration purposes. Early on, due to not cleaning the carbon well, there was alot of carbon fines in the water that were eventually taken out by my mechanical filtration units.

However, the entire frontal face of my purple tang has lost its color similar to what is happening to yours.
Some think it's the carbon fines...and I do believe it is related to carbon use.

I have added a blue face angel and notice that some of the blue color in the face is turning more grayish....carbon?

I have six butterflies and no issues at all.

Research is still being conducted on it. However if you are using a protein skimmer you should not see an issue as you do if not running a skimmer. Hopefully J will chime in. Could be poor water quality. How often do you perform a water change?
