I have had my clownfish with me for about 8 years. She's followed me many miles, and I have recently had to keep her in a 10 gallon "ICU" while I was working on my 29 gallon build. Well, it isn't going as fast as I wanted it to, so I figured I would improve the display of the 10 gallon. What do you think.
I know the lights need help, but I'm working on it.
Here it is before adding the black background.

Nothing great, but it's an improvement.
Congrats on 8 years with the clown fish !
You may want to consider adding more live rock to aid biological filtration.

Actually, I just added the sand bed, that should allow for much more surface area for nitrogen fixing bacteria. Thanks for the comment.
Actually, my parameters are doing quite well. I do run about 20 on my nitrates, but there is little rock in there and the clown is quite a big fish for this size tank. I keep the algae trimmed back quite a bit, but I actually think it acts like a refugium, because when I trim the algae, my nitrates go up.
Surprizingly, with my API phosphate test however, It's undetectable. I know there has to be some, but I would have suspected it much higher than it is.
But with the decision to use this 10 gallon for a while, I will invest in a CUC and that should help reduce food spoilage as well.
Thanks for the comments,
Aaron

Just a word about the skimmer, It's a typical remora nano. That means it works really well for 2 days, then if you don't clean the riser and cup, no more skimming. But it has seemed to keep up with this tank quite well. It's not keeping up well enough that I would dare start SPS though. It's just not stabile enough at this small of water volume.

yeah, I had that skimmer on a 40 gallon, and it pulled out some stuff every once in a while.... I would think it could keep up easily with a 10 gallon, though.

It has less to do with the gallons, and more to do with the maintenance. She's a pretty high maintenance chick.

Well I have made some much needed improvements. Since the last post. I got rid of all the rocks I really didn't like. Actually, it's been sitting with the new rock for several months to colonize with as much life as possible before removing the reef collected LR for the base rock that I had.
Here's a FTS

I was going for a rock that has Calved off the main rock look. Kind of like what icebergs do. What do you think?

Hope you like it.
Really the camera pics up all the debris that really the eye leaves behind, and it leaves behind all the colors that are really here.
In other words, it's a lot more beautiful in person than in these pics.
Thanks for looking,

I think it's a Metallic Orange Pavona maldivensis with a green devil's hand leather over it.

Are you still going to move it all to the 29? And are you doing frequent water changes?
Congratulations on keeping that clown so long. You must be doing something right. ;)

Actually I do plan to move it all to the 29 soon. My wife just gave me permission to get a new RODI unit. So ill be able to keep up maintenance a lot easier.
I do a 4 gallon water change about every other week.
Thanks for looking.
