Some changes have been made to the website , this is work in progress please provide feed back and suggestions. Strayvoltage had some and have been implemented and/or are still in progress.
I'm thinking of adding a "sponsor" page to the website for future sponsors of the club such as local LFS , logo and a link to their website for a moderate yearly fee LOL , need your comments .

actually i like the one you used....very youthful. i like it, stuff is easy to find and most of the info is there.
One suggestion would be a link for new people interested in joining the club.

and looking at the Board of Directors, you are missing two members at large.
thecoralreef915
05/03/2010, 02:42 PM
OPPS who's missing besides myself?
What information about membership would you like to use and/or suggest.
Audrey, how about a rooster page (or is it roster?)
Jay508
05/03/2010, 02:59 PM
Jaymait would be the missing member at large. A roster page would be a great idea along with membership status.
I will be working with a friend, once finals week is over (this week), to develop some logos for the club. Once the logos are finalized it is my ambition to have some stickers, with website address, printed up that can be passed along. Then other goods to come....
Jay508

Why do I have the feeling that I will never hear the end of this rooster thing? See, typos can have long lasting permanent effects.......
psuedopimp
05/03/2010, 03:17 PM
maybe a link "Interested in Joining our Rooster?" and then link to the part of the bylaws that pertain to membership.
for the roster link you can have a picture of a rooster, that would be cool.

****-A-Doodle-Doo! I will send the "rooster" information to Daniel. Hey Justin, why don't you send a pic of you and that tom turkey that you just blasted? I will take a pic of me and my two hens and we can keep this poultry reference alive :) Sorry, Jay I don't think you will ever live that one down.

Great work, Daniel. You are really on top of things here and making it all happen for the website. If there is any way I can help with it other than ideas please let me know.
I really like the idea about the sponsor page for the local stores. Part of that sponsor fee could go to a banner for the sponsoring store. Just ideas here, I hope everyone jumps in and adds to any of this that they wish to.
Just a reminder here, any person that wants to take part in any part of what is going on here, is more than welcome to do so. Please post your ideas and let us know if there is something you would like to see on the website.

For any of you that have not yet been to the web site pleasse go there and have a look around. It is still a work in progress. Any suggestions on the site are also welcomed.
The site is all due to Daniel taking control of it and making it happen, along with suggestions from members. Thank you Daniel for all the great work.

Thank you strayvoltage and to jay508. I can already tell that there is a diffrent "feel" to this forum and club in general. I live on the west side of el paso and if anyone needs my help just let me know. I'm still new to the hobby, my first tank came down with ich and lost all my fish. It was a 46g. Now I have a 39g cadlights pro for a little over a month now and so far so good! My tank has a small clown, a fire fish that we call MIA cause he is never around, a cleaner shrimp and a blood red shrimp. Some snails and hermits and a star fish that has gotten himself stuck inside the bottom of the overflow box (still don't know how to get him out). As for coral I have a purple tube anemone, a candy cane (thanks Timgentry) a hamer and some zoas (tubs blue, nuke greens, and some purple hornets) from benjaba.

These are just a few, so please chime in and lets figure out what we would like the site to look like, it will be a club effort.

Good ideas guys. I think the minutes being posted would be a good thing.
I agree with this. Somewhere in one of the tabs maybe under "news" or "events" we can post meeting minutes and any other pertinent club info like things coming up for vote and whatnot.
strayvoltage
07/02/2010, 09:51 PM
we could post meeting miuntes under meeting minutes. I see the minutes for other clubs on their websites under minutes. I like the K.I.S.S. method whenever possible. Minutes are minutes and need not be hidden in news or events. Like you all know JMO.
We need to use the website but we also need to keep in mind one thing. The one thing that I was told when I was allowed to set up this new club forum was, we like you to have your own website but don't want you to use RC to direct people there, but rather just the opposite. Use your website to direct people to RC.
So we can give good info about the club and use the website for whatever we want to use it for, but I think it still needs to serve as a tool to bring new people here to our new club forum at RC.

+1!
How about a tank of the month on the website? The winner can get a gift cert to one of the LFS's or restaurant? Or a simple bat in the back and an atta girl/boy.
DIY info--how to lighting, building stands, resealing aquariums, posting JMaits thread here , etc.
Information for newbies entering this hobby --how to get started, what to expect, and the do's and don'ts. I know that I would have BENEFITED GREATLY if this info was available when I first started.
Thanks!

Daniel- please chime in if you feel like I am stepping on your toes, that is not my intention. I am just trying to move things forward. I am very greatful that you have started the website project and feel that the club is in debt to you for it. If you would like to hang on to the site and continue the design process I am ok with that, really.
I am trying to embrace this website project because something has presented itself right here and right now. In my eyes it is a good thing, and no its not going to cost the club anything. I think it is just another step in moving the club forward. If the majority feels that Audrey needs to head this project we can go that route to but I am volunteering myself, wasn't the joke that VP has no duties anyway?
I think everyone will like the finished product here. so if we can all come to agreement I would like to start this right away before the opportunity vanishes.
strayvoltage
07/03/2010, 08:00 AM
Hey Jay, I think Daniel aleady said that he was okay with this but it was on the other thread. I am not saying Audrey should head this project but she does need to be part of it because she keeps the records, they are part of what should be on the site.
Jay I for one don't have a problem with it after Daniel said go for it.
deehz, there are links on the site to direct new members here to RC to the new to the hobby forum as well as a direct link to the STARS forum and how to get set up with a user name for RC. I think we have a great tool here in RC and we should use it to our advantage by directing people here.

Jay after the site is all set up and whatever changes made to it, who will take care of updating it with new info when needed? Who will be able to do that and what program or programs will they need to take care of doing it? Just some things that ned to be thought about before we just go and change everything and not have a person able to keep the page up after it is set up.

pnavarro170, welcome to STARS and RC
We can upload photos here and there is no searching thru the forums. This is the reason STARS has it's own club forum, just like the rest of the clubs that are on RC. Not everyone has face book! I think if you want to post photos they would be seen by far more people in the hobby here on RC than on Face book. This of course is JMO.

sounds good guys, well let me start a page on facebook for anyone who has saltwater or reef tanks in el paso and see how it goes from there, im sure more people are on here but you never know, plus it would be cool to have the common guy on facebook not just some of the more knowledgable people like you guys. ill let you know. it just sucked that i have a bunch of friends on facebook and only a couple had tanks haha.

We don't have a real count of the amount of STARS members. There are two types of membership, anyone that participates in our forum is considered a member. If you would like to have voting privileges, then you must be active in the forum and attend three meetings.
I like the facebook idea, it would not be a replacement to the forum or website but another tool to bring people that interested in reef keeping in the area together. I don't see how having a link to RC or STARS website on facebook could be a bad thing. A general facebook page for local reef keepers would be a good place to start. Let us know how to get there on facebook once it is set up :)

Experiencing a minor hold up but working through things.
We are currently in the process of moving the website from the existing server to a new web hosting company with larger capacity (godaddy.com). well if your building a website from scratch it can be a pain im sure. if it just needs to look up to date and nice with added content, then why not use yahoo small business websites, they are soooo simple to do and look pretty cool. you pay a small up front fee, its like $10 a month to keep. ive done a few using them and it couldnt be simpler.
here are some of mine or ones ive done. IM NOT PROMOTING ANYTHING AT ALL !! I DONT NEED HELP SELLING ANYTHING. HAHAHAHA
www.navarrokennels.com is for my dogs
www.joinexitrealestate.com is one i did for my dad to recruit realtors
www.alderetehomes.com is one im working on now for a small builder.

Well, I haven't chimed in a while. But I do like the idea that Pnavarro170 to build a facebook page. It can be incorporated into the STARS website.
Facebook can be a great entry point to those that do not like the "atmosphere" of an open forum such as RC, but love the networking that Facebook does offer. IMHO, I think that a Facebook page for STARS can be a great asset. Just my .02 cents.

The new site is up, however it is not finalized. I have been very busy here in Santa Fe finishing up at the resort so I pretty much have had no input on the site design but that will change. I really had not touched base with Stephen since we successfully moved the site hosting to godaddy.
I do have all the logo files that Ryan sent me and I need to pass them on to Stephen and will also be working on some different sections and tabs that can be updated on a regular basis by me. So far I am thinking:
News/Events
Tank Shots
Executive Commitee (with photos and email addresses)
Sponsors
Links
If it is ok with Dennis and Daniel and the rest of the club I would like to put them in as official sponsors, hopefully more to come in the future. Also open to any other suggestions for the site. I don't know how much will get done until I get back so hang in there with me, I will be returning on August 20th.

I was thinking I need to send a message to Stephen and ask him if he can work with either you or myself or both on it and lets see if we can get more of the things that need to be on there done.

Jay hook me up with Stephen and I will make sure he has some of the things we need to get on the site and also talk with him about ways that it can be updated and kept up to date.
We all understand you are busy and have a lot going on. Let others help and we can make this thing happen easier and faster. That is the nice part about being a group rather than one, we can and should all be working together to make the things happen and not just one person trying to take things such as the website on all alone. Please message me or call me when you can.
Remember there is no I in team. We are all here to help each other as a team. It matters not what our title in the club is or isn't we are still a team. When we stop helping each other then the club falls apart and ends up like the last one that never had that going on. At this point I am not willing to allow that to happen after all the hard work we have all put into it. Without open communication we have nothing, like I have always said and will continue to say.
