Hey guys and gals I am new but have been lurking for a while. I have very little saltwater experience other than a FOWLR tank I had a few years back that I sold during a move. I have a local women selling a 26 gal bow front that has live rock, 3 power heads, skimmer, HOB, heater, digital thermometer, tons of water tests, big bag of salt, 2 clownfish, a dozen red and blue hermit crabs, a few small green brittle stars all for $150. OH ya there is also a few hundred Aiptasia in the tank. Is it worth the money. If not what is it worth. Please help she needs an answer soon. If I get it I plan on droping in about 8 Berghia Nudibranch once I am sure the water is good. Help Please.

Sounds like a decent deal for $150. Unless you see something seriously wrong, I would go for it.

The aiptasia would be my biggest worry, but if you're up for some work you can fix anything. Seems like a reasonable price, 125 would be even better though.

I'd go for it. Maybe you can talk her down because of the aiptasia!!

Is a HOB good enough for a 26gal.

do you think a peppermint shrimp could handle that many. They are only a 1/4 -1/2 in height. How many peppermint would it take or where you joking.

With enough good live rock it should be. It looks like you will have your work cut out for you but I'm sure you can handle it.

I think peppermint shrimp could handle it. I don't think he was joking.
Just hope you get the right bunch of peppermints. Usually getting smallers one are better at attacking aiptasia :) Just don't feed them anything else. They'll get the job done!

You think 5 or 6 would work.

try a smaller number of the peppermints and don't feed the clowns much so there isn't a ton of extra food for the pepps to eat... they will start to wonder where the leftover food is and demolish your aiptasias. They seem to work best in multiples of 2 (I only have 1 in a 75g and he does the job) but I would just add 2 at the most 4. Pepps are crazy little night-time guys. Mine does laps around my tank upside down all night.

Also check the salinity in that tank if you reuse the water. It looks like it's in dire need of a top-off.

Looks like you would have a little bit of work to do, but seems like a great deal! I am running a 29 gallon tank with a HOB filter (and a small bioload), so you should be fine. Just make sure to regularly clean/replace the filter or it can become a nitrate trap.
