it seems these micro bubbles have a thing for me
hey again people
is there any way to make my skimmer blow less micro bubbles? its an octopus ns-80 nano skimmer, i mean i thought skimmers were good, the only thing this one is doing is making it hard for me to enjoy the view of my corals

does anybody have a possible solution?
thanks

How old is it? May just have to let it break in.

you may need to set up a diffuser for the effluent. let's see if I can explain it enough. I have my skimmer effluent dumping into a 6" PVC pipe with a 90 to make it swirl, cut a notch out of the bottom for water to exit - like a 1/4 of it or so, it will still stand up. have the water go in the top with a hose/pipe and put a 90 on it near the top. the water will swirl, bubbles stay up and pop - the water will exit out the bottom clear. make sense? Very simple and it works! I fought those little buggers for a long time too, saw this at a LFS and said AH HA! had it ever since!

ok, I am not familiar with your skimmer, but where does the water exit from it? can you put a hose/pipe on it to dump it somewhere? if so, hmm let me see if I can take a picture

I can't get a good picture of it, too much stuff in the way. so here goes again... first, is your skimmer in the sump?

Skimmers take time to "break-in." They get covered with a slime coat that will help with the bubbles. I bet if you try leaving it alone for a couple of days, up to 2 weeks, it will work it self out. Just run it wide open for at least 2 days, then adjust it up a tiny tiny bit. Wait to more days, tiny tiny bit more. It just takes time. No amount of plumbing or fooling with it will make up for patience.

Umm, the NS-80 is an HOB skimmer. Probably dont have a sump.

I think what he was trying to say is that if your bubble problem doesn't subside after a week or so ( the break in period) you may need to re-route the skimmer return (the pipe that dumps the water from the skimmer back into the tank) to an area that isn't right where your return pump is.
