Okay my tank is nearly up and running. I went through experimentation and boot camp style studying up the wazoo and finally after buying 3 different tanks, cleaning them and setting them up and changing my mind twice, I have settled on the RSM 130. i spent half the day cleaning that monster out with some help.

I almost have my filtration setup and i have to arrange live rock.

Ive been reading a 1200 page Marine and reef tank book and it covered aquascaping very minimally. It said not to cover the glass wall as there is no flow of water and can bloom algae, hard to clean, see, etc. But it was talking about a 4 sided glass tank. My RSM (or any nano) has a black plastic back so essentially is just 3 sided. Can i aquascape it so i can lean all the rocks back against the back wall so i have more of a mountain range type display rather than a volcano type (if i pull it off the wall)? Not sure if anyone understand that..

A lot of people with nano tanks seem to push all their LR against the back wall.. good or bad?

thanks any help appreciated

Not sure what kind of light set up you have, but take in consideration where your rocks will get maximum light cover. Instead of just kind of making a 'rock wall' in the back, there are ways to position the rocks to make the eye follow through the tank and give it the illusion of being larger than it is. But it is all a preference.

Good luck!

Keep in mind that in order to perform like a filter, the rocks need flow. Don't pile them up too tightly, and think how you could direct a pump to push water through them. For example, if you keep your pumps on the back wall pointing towards the front of the tank, and the rocks are all in the back, they might not get the flow you need.
Best you could do is check a few successful nano-s, see how they are set up.

Okay cool that makes sense. I will try and think something up. Good call about the flow.
