Depends on how high and how far. I used a maxi jet 400. I have to go about 3 feet up and 5 feet over

x2 on tom's aqualifter.
I had a JBL but swapped it for a dual float switch from autotopoff.com. The aqualifter is a slow pump and at times the JBL would time out before my sump was filled. I had it set to the max time, around 15 mins, but for some reason it was not long enough a few times. I do not have this issue with the autotopoff unit.

The JBJ has a problem where it needs 1" of change to kick in the topoff which is too much. There is a way to fix that,

+1 on the aqualifter....Cheap but will only pump 3 gallons/hour

If you are needing a larger draw/pump height the LiterMeter III is great as I've found in my current top off situation:)

Another aqualifter fan here. They're cheap so buy two and you'll have a backup ready incase it craps out on you

Aqualifters are great topoff pumps. They are also great for limewater topoff. It doesn't seem to hurt them at all. I have to pump ~ 5' so I use 2 of them in series.
