I was about to order a 180g drilled tank from my LFS, but then saw that I could go taller to a 210 gallon....

Would there be much of a cost difference? Any other down sides to a taller 210 gallon tank?

there should be a price difference, because the tall one would probably need thicker glass. taller tanks are hard to work with, measure your arms and see if you'd need your shoulder wet every time you have to replace a frag that fell

210's are pretty tall.... I couldn't reach down in it without soaking my chest/shoulder. I like the size of a 210 but there are drawbacks.

iam 6ft 3in andmy armpits get a saltwater bath anytime i have to reach to the bottom of my 210g...but even with that i love the tank and the only other drawback i could see with the 210g is if its a reef you might have to buy a little more light because of the extra height of the 210g depending on the types of corals you want to keep

go for the 180 dude.. I was in the same boat asking the same questions when I was looking for a big tank and I am glad I went with the 180 I can barely touch the bottom on my 180, I can just imagine a 210. and also the light issue as agreeive?fish said

I have a 265g (basically a 7' long version of the 210) . I HATE the height. Hate. Hate. Hate. I switched from bare bottom to a deep sand bed just to make it less irritating to work in the tank despite preferring BB methodology. I'll never go over 24" height again.

SAME Here currently have 210 gallon tank hard to work with have to get step ladder to feed my BTA. Just bought a standard 240 for that very reason better use of my Mh fixture still have to get step stool because my stand is 36 inches tall.

Go with the 180. Unless you're an orangutan, you'll have your armpit in the water evertime you need to reach the bottom.

I also have a 265G and I can't reach the bottom. But I love the looks of a tall tank. It's harder to maintain, but IMO, it's worth the hassel. So, go for the taller tank if you can afford it.

I agree, the tank looks great at that height. I just don't think the hassle is worth it. A 24" tank looks pretty good too.

Looks cooler taller but more light like everyone said. My friend has a 220 and you need your shirt off if you wanna keep it dry!

I really think it depends on two things. First, how tall are you? Second, is the tank eurobraced or crossed braced at all? If you are really tall and if it’s not euro/cross braced then it should be pretty easy to work on. My last tank was an Oceanic 215 gallon and was 30 inches tall; the top wasn’t braced at all so I had no problems working on it. Now my current 450 gallon, also 30 inches tall but it is eurobraced, is a lot harder to work on than my last tank.

I love the look of a tall tank but you do need to be able to work in it.

I was looking at both as well. I went with the 210 and I like the hight and the look of the tank. 180 looked out of proportion, fat and squaty. I do get a wet sleve at times when I reach the vary bottom, but its worth it to me. I love my tank.

We had a 180 my wife couldnt reach anything in it. Im over 6ft and got wet shirt syndrome everytime I had to do anything with the tank. One thing that no one has mentioned or asked (I may have missed it) is it going on a factory stand or custom built stand with "fish room" if the 2nd option is what your doing you can always make a shorter stand to rectify the prob.

hmm I'm 5'3 and work on my 180 all the time:) but I have to tiptoe to see the water level in the top of the tank
