I have a 210 tank that is about 7/8'' thick; what is the best magnet to pickup to use?

I know I cant just pickup a normal magnet as the tank is to think, where might I get one w/o spending a fortune? The ones I am seeing online seem to be about 150 bucks, are there cheaper ones out there?

Thanks

There's one here at a local store for around $89 which sounds like a rip off to me!! It was square, maybe 4x4 or 5x5. I think it was a Magfloat!?!

Unfortunately your going to have to break down and spend the money for a good one. If you dont you will waste the same amount of money on buying 5 crappy ones that dont have the strengeth you need.

+1 on the algae free, i got one from them, the pirahna, it looks nice too, the one that goes on the outside of the tank is a nice stained wood, inside one is black, strongest magnets ive ever seen in a algae magnet!

Thanks guys. Guess I am going to have to go with that Great White one. At least the wood color is pretty close to my cabinets.

When you receive it be careful with it.
They are VERY strong magnets and can easily break a finger.
If you do not leave it in your tank you need something thick like 3/4" plywood to separate them or you can barely get them apart.

I would get one that floats regardless of brand.

really, holy crap. It says its strong on the site, didnt think it was that strong. I will more than likely just leave it in the tank though as it will be more of a pain to keep taking it out, especially if the magnet is that strong.

Mighty Magnets are pricey but well worth it. Get the coralline scraping pad as well.

They are really strong.
You should put them both against the glass (not lined up) and then slide them together.
If you hold them off the glass and bring them together they could break the glass.
You'll see. You just have to be careful, but they work great!

I don't think they were mentioned but magnavores are pretty awesome. A tad expensive but definitely worth it.

I won't let another Magnavore product touch my tank and I would suggest you do the same. I had a set of Magnavore pads come directly from the package with some sort of grit embedded in them and scratch the [email protected] out of the outside of my tank. When I emailed Magnavore, "Jack", replied with "there's hardly a tank out there that doesn't have a scratch or two", and after several emails, won't even offer to replace the defective pads, let alone the tank which his product ruined.

You can see my vendor feedback thread for Magnavore here--->http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1811753

Also be careful around magnetically mounted pumps and frag racks:) Generally they are ok around the larger pumps but will quickly pull frag rack magnetsoff their target.

Another vote vote Mighty magnets. Their pads are some of the best!
