Cheato and pods

Probably a stupid question, but..

I’ve heard people suggesting to run cheato in a refuge and one of the reasons is that “pods will multiply like crazy in there”.

Why is that? Why is cheato better than say LR rubble or any porous “thing” with a large surface for the pods to hang out on? I understand that it is practical in that it will be easy to take the algae out every now and then and shake a bunch of the pods out into the display tank. I also understand that the algae has other benefits not related to this matter, but if we look strictly at the pod reproduction – what makes the algae so special? :)

i want to know this also because my refuge is slowly coming together as the micro and cheato grow and i get some more liverock i will start to put pods down there. but i will have cheato and liverock so they can use both.

I like Chaeto for "Pod Housing" because when I remove it from the system (Pruning) I also remove any trapped detritus. With LRR it's not such a simple task.

Also as mentioned when you want to "Pod-pulate" you can suspend/shake the Chaeto over the display tank.

I don't know that Chaeto would cause them to explode any better than another type of "refugium" (in fact it shouldn't matter).

I do not think chaeto is any better I just think it is something most people have in the sumps already and is a place where predators can not get to.
