I have found a few devices that will call a phone number to let you know your power has gone out, cheapest one i've seen is about $77. Has anyone found anything cheaper?

I've seen them at home electronic security on-line stores
they also sell a device that will call or email you if it detects a water leak

I wish I invented something like those, simple ideas can make a lot of money. I read something about the guy that thought of that little plastic piece some pizza places put in the box to keep the pizza(cheese) from getting stuck to the top of the pizza box, or to keep the top of the box from getting pushed down onto the pizza while being delivered. Apparently, he made quite a few millions of dollars off of that. Way off topic, but while reading about the device you are speaking of, I thought; "Why didn't I think of that years ago?"

something like this, that calls if there is a freeze or power outage

you can also get a module that calls based on what sensor you hook up; like freeze, power out, leak detection etc
