I have just bought a used tank that has a 2.5 inch hole in the back left corner. This hole is accompanied by a 1.5 inch bulkhead with some 1.5 inch pipe. I am pretty sure that this one standpipe can handle 1200 gph. I would like to add a second standpipe in the back right corner. The question is if I add a 1 inch bulkhead and 1.25 inch standpipe to the back right corner that can handle 600 gph. This totals 1800 gph and if I use a 1200 gph return pump will the original 1.5 inch standpipe suck too much air? How important is it that the standpipe is matched correctly to the pump? So if the standpipe is too big for the pump, will this cause problems? I want two overflows so should I try to reduce the 1.5 inch pipe down to 1.25 inches?

Lots of questions I know but any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

How big is the tank? What will you use for overflow weirs? I would have the drain pipes on both sides the same size.

tank is a 210. So if I made both standpipes 1.5 inches for a total of 2400 gph and I used my 1200 gph pump would this cause a problem? I know you want to undersize your pump a bit but is this too much? Will the oversized pipes cause a noise problem?

If you are looking for a silent drain system, take a look at this thread:
