Got a 2" bulkhead from BRS. The gasket is ribbed on one side and smooth on the other. Which side goes against the glass?

thanks

I'm curious if anybody else responds, but as I sit here thinking what I'd do there really isn't anything differnt either way. Both sides are "wet", the pressure is the same size and shape on both sides. I'd probably put the ribbed side against the glass and just move on. You can always flip it later.

The ribbed side. You wont be able to flip it if its a slip fitting. ;)

??? I thought we're just talking about the rubber gasket being ribbed on one side and smooth on the other...slip or threaded wouldn't make a difference then. Unless I'm reading the question wrong.

I just meant that once you glue a slip fitting, its hard to flip that washer over. :lmao:

Put the flat side against the glass - it should be more uniform them the plastic flange on the bulkhead.

Its not about uniformity. The ridges are designed to compress when you tighten the bulkhead creating a seal. While this is possibly splitting hairs a bit, as they will seal either way as already mentioned, the ridges are intended to go against the glass.

Ah...yes. I would test the seal before I cement anything in place that I can't remove. But you are correct.

i would also always use silicone on both sides of gasket to make sure it wont leak. ive had them leak before

the ribbed sided goes on the flange of the bulkhead....
