Hi Guys,

The good and important news we had at today's meeting was that Aquarium Reef Keepers of Southwestern Connecticut (ARK), as a club, is official. We have incorporated as a non stock, not for profit organization (Aquarium Reef Keepers of Southwestern Connecticut, INC.)

This means we have an official board of directors, a mission statement, bylaws and limited liability.

Our goal in this incorporation was ensure that we keep this club as a social, informal, local type meeting that we currently all desire and enjoy.

We will be posting more information, including our bylaws, responsibilities, etc on our website (www.arksc.org).

The Interim Board of Directors is as follows:

Grand Poobah - RTMA (Joe)
Lesser Poobah - Terahz (Georgi)
Mr Money - Scolley (Steve)
Director at Large - Didi71 (Didier)

The board is responsible for ensuring our members have a place to meet each month, manage our club funds, arrange discounts / Group Buys and act as directed by our club members. With all of this handled in the back ground by the board, everyone can focus on just showing up at a meeting and enjoying themselves without discussing any official "club" business. This will allows us to just show up and talk reef.

The one negative outcome of this is the need to collect dues. As a not for profit organization, we are required to collect dues from our members. After lengthy discussions (we really wanted no dues) with my fellow board members as well as Jeff, we selected the lowest amount we believed would be approved by the federal government for a not for profit organization. The dues are 10 dollars annually.

I will post a link once everything is ready on our site, this will include our Founding Members, membership requirements, membership benefits and more.

Feel free to PM any one of our board members with any questions.

Thanks, Joe

Is that a one for all price or is there a family plan :)

I guess you could consider it a family plan, as most of the benefits could be gained by a single member of the household (i.e., one person to buy raffle tickets or join a group buy, etc). I'll be posting an updated FAQ regarding the incorporation in the next day or so.
