I don’t think so that I will stay and stick with this upgrade and will not upgrade some time in future. So the journey ahead should be fun…….

Well here, it goes...

Little Back Ground:

My name is Syed and I have been addicted by Life under the Sea. After 15 years of freshwater tanks I decided to take the plunge into saltwater in 2001 and built, my first reef Aquarium in Bangkok – Thailand.

When I move to Saudi Arabia in 2004, the addiction of Marine life was very strong, which forced me to start again a Reef Aquarium. So in August 2007 I started again 120 G Aquarium.

In January 2010 I decided to upgrade my 120G to 300G Starfire custom-made. My current tank is 145cm x 41cm x 52cm custom-made with internal overflow box including a lot of gurgle and vortex sound. Lol…, which I sort out last year with playing with Ball valve.

First two years I was completely fail to keep SPS and LPS. Only able to keep Leathers zoos and mushroom. Last November a friend of mine force me to start SPS again, maybe this time I will get good luck and will able to keep them survive. Staghorn and stylopora coral.

Re-aquascaping in left side of the aquarium to place them.

I took some colonies of Bird Nest, Pocillopora, montipora, Purple and Green Acropora.

SPS on the place .

My current system is very simple. No calcium reactor until today, and will not in future because I am too much happy with Randy Holmes Two Part recipe for dosing calcium and alkalinity. But I keep space in my sump for Calcium Reactor in case.

After six months, I realized that this time I got good luck and able to keep SPS.

Now, Here we go…..:

After much deliberation and research, I've decided The tank will go into the same room the first tank is in and to the right and left of the tank just past the light switches 110V & 220V. The stuff, which are from USA and other countries, are 110V and locally stuff are 220V.

The Room is approximately 10 X 12 and is cooled via 2 Ton (or 24000 BTU) air conditioner. Heating the room is not a big issue, because we have four beautiful season, summer (hottest) winter (Hot), Autumn (Also Hot) and spring (Hot again). My AC runs 20 Hours a day to control room temperature.

Because of the current use of the room and the available space that remains, the tank will be 72”L X 30”W X 24”H.

Thanks Andrew. Andrew from Hong Kong send me his Aquarium stand diagrams for my 300g.

I have made little changes. Instead of making the sliding doors I prefer to use clips for completely remove the doors from the stand. Color will be completely white. I have already ordered the stand, which I will receive by today evening. I’ll post more photos by tomorrow.

With Ahmed (A brilliant guy) suggestion I choose Starfire tempered Glass 10mm thickness.
This is known as Crystal glass as well.

I decided and designed two external 50cm overflow with 3 x 1.5” holes in each box. One for Regular drains one for Flood drain (in case) and one for return from the sump. I choose Herbie silent overflow for drain. Hope it will work well. ;) I’ll post more details as it goes together. Most probably, Glass will be ready by next week. According to the factory, it will take 5 to 6 days.

TANK MEASUREMENT

Length: 185cm = 72 inches = 6 feet
Weight: 76cm = 30 inches = 2.5 feet
Height: 60cm = 24 inches = 2 feet

Hope easy to understand for all kind of level. ;)

Syed, if possible, when you pick up the glass from the manufacturer could you ask how much it would cost for a tank of the following size 150*80*50 cm, starphire on 3 sides. If possible :)

Thanks balljunkie.

Thanks for your suggestion. It was in my design earlier, but after get information from the guy who is making the stand, that leveling feet will not exist to hold the weight of glass with the stuff inside (Rocks, water, sand etc). Might be possible some time when your system run with everything it will fail to hold the wait and

Before removing from my plan, I check the floor it's 100% leveled. Btw my 120 gallon on same place since august 2007.

I made three plans for sump. The existing aquarium will be converted as sump and existing sump will be frag tank.

Plan C is final until now from my side. (Suggestions are most well come) But the problem is only 2 cm bigger then table size. I have to make some amendment in Frag tank to fix under the stand.

I tell you, my Saturday and completely day of Sunday used to be in Chituchak weekend market. Amazing place. You just think about anything you will find there.

Sea sun aquarium is good shop, Phoket Aquarium is also good shop.

Everything for this hobby is really cheap in this market. Corals and fishes you can find in just a couple of Baht. I really miss Bangkok but I am too much happy in Saudi Arabia.

As I mentioned that existing, tank will be sump and sump will be Frag Tank. I made the plumbing plan to fulfill the requirement of Refugium and Frag tank. My plan not to release too much water direct from tank in mentioned area to avoid detritus to get stay and make water parameters unstable. (Ammonia, Nitrate, and Phosphate).

90% Drain from the tank will be in Protein skimmer Area and after that 100 micron Acrylic will filter total volume of water, which pass through bubble trap area. I change Acrylic every twice a week. Normally I just open this Acrylic barrier for 10 hours when I feed my coral.

Lokking good so far.
What I would think about:
-Why have hte frag tank as separate part of the sump? you're loosing the space in between the frag and sump and that space you could use for a set of additional frags with the same lighting and filtration... I have the same design currently and wish the sump contained the frag tank this way I only loose the glass thinckness compared to what you loose here. the tubing in between the tanks will need to have a quick disconnect and locks to allow for stopping waterflow in case yo uneed to take the frag tank off when treating corals in it... so those will consume space.
- are you going to light the frag with T5s or MH? in case it's MH then you need to make sure you have 8-12 inches from the lower side of the reflector to water or else you'll have a hard time light acclimating the corals and dealing with the heat as I have in my setup.
-Skimmer partition in you plan is 37 cm so most probably you'll need to elevate your skimmer around 12 cm as most skimmers work best between 18-25 cm in water. so add that to your skimmer length and allow 1-2 inches for easy removal of the collection cup and make sure your stand is high enough. I had made my calculations but the stand came with horizontal support of the top part positioned vertically on the metal which consummed 3 inches more and made it very difficult to position the skimmer.

Good luck with the build.

Hi bro.
Thanks and nice you are here with me

Lokking good so far.
What I would think about:
-Why have hte frag tank as separate part of the sump? you're loosing the space in between the frag and sump and that space you could use for a set of additional frags with the same lighting and filtration... I have the same design currently and wish the sump contained the frag tank this way I only loose the glass thinckness compared to what you loose here. the tubing in between the tanks will need to have a quick disconnect and locks to allow for stopping waterflow in case yo uneed to take the frag tank off when treating corals in it... so those will consume space.

As I mentioned that existing sump will be Frag tank. So this the only way that I can joint the frag tank with sump.
Yes, exactly the both joint of Frag tank to the main sump will have gates to completely block the water circulation in case of any treatment of corals. That is why I made only 5% drain from the tank in frag tank. This is what I planned.

As I mentioned that I have to open my sump again and adjust the measurements according the space remaining. Sump and frag tank is only 2 cm longer then stand.

- are you going to light the frag with T5s or MH? in case it's MH then you need to make sure you have 8-12 inches from the lower side of the reflector to water or else you'll have a hard time light acclimating the corals and dealing with the heat as I have in my setup.

Yes of course, it will have three different wattage of T5 with one Actinic Blue and one 150 watt MH. The reason is to installing 3 different wattage of T5 for proper acclimation of the coral with PAR. I’ll increase light gradually instead of putting them under 150W MH directly. This is what I will do.

Yes, exactly what you wrote down above is correct. All has been done with proper planning. Hope whatever I have done will not give me any hard time.

In three years, I made uncountable experiments :reading:with my existing aquarium sump and all other stuff. .

Good luck with the build.

Thanks again for your valuable suggestions.

Oh Yes, Really happy to see your post again. Well come brother.

The rollup sump concept, I did not integrate with the stand but in the same time I keep the concept as it was. I'll see if I need this in future. I already design my plumbing, which will not case hassle when you roll out the sump. You can see the stand in photos, the wheel place I keep as it is for future expansion.

Thanks.
I'll post, what came with Nikon D5000. I am not good in photography. I got first section from Nick. (One hour Class) ..

Concerning the Clams Clown issue I would say get the clams away from his Anemone. He could be thinking it's a threat to his anemone as it's a bit close...
If he continues to follow and attack the clam like this definitly take him out.
Those are two very nice clams you got there.
If the second one is far and still getting attacked then your clown must have an apetite for clams and I would definitly chose a clam over a clown.
Congrats on the camera buy. the 70-300 I'm not really familiar with but I would say is not the ideal range for tank shots. what is the other lense in the pictures? is that the 18-50 Nikon?
could be a bit better than the 70-300 as it would focus a bit closer which will allow you to rest the camera on the glass when not on tripod... On great and cheap lense I found is the Tamron 17-50 2.8 it is faster than other lense as it's a fixed 2.8 and reasonably good quality even wide open and still costs only 3-400 Usd. most of my shots are taken with it.
What tripod is that? make sure it's good quality and stable enough to support your camera with the big lense wide open.

?Question here...

I Planed to put 1 inch of white styrofoam under my tank.

Q: should i go for 1.5 or 2 inches?

and I'm wondering how much it will compress after the tank is filled? There will be 1 to 2 inches compression in plumbing for adjusting the weight of tank. I'm thinking it couldn't possibly compress more than a 1/4 of an inch. My guess is it will compress by a couple of millimeters. Any thoughts or experiences?

Seddalback really damaged the calm.... :mad2: . .. :furious:
The Exhalant aperture it’s been totally eaten and damaged. Mantles are damaged and eaten. Hope it will recover, but the beauty of Mantles are gone.

I took the clown out before it kill or completely damage my all clams.:uzi::fish1::hammer:

Thanks for appreciation. The 70-300 is not for tank shots, it is for out door use. The other one in the picture is Nikon DX (AF-S NIKKOR 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6G VR).

Yes of course I will buy the lens what you recommended previously, I think it was Tamron 15-50 2.8 or maybe I will buy (Nikon 105mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S VR Micro-Nikkor Lens)

I don’t know exactly about tripod. I just like and bought it. For exact specification, I have to go through user’s manual, which I did not open until now. It looks strong enough.

:pOf course I need long classes from you to learn how to take good quality shots.

If you are going to put styrofoam under your tank do not use the white stuff. Use the blue/pink stuff that is very dense. I did a quick Google and found this http://www.aquariumadvice.com/forums/f12/should-i-use-styrofoam-under-my-tank-52809.html or http://ovas.ca/index.php?topic=22639.msg157340 I think it should answer your questions.

Awesome build!!

To my knowledge the use of Styrofoam panels under the tank is for acrylic tanks. Yours is a glass tank and i believe it is not recommended.

If you want to add some support to the bottom of the tank i would suggest plywood or something similar.

Your tank is going to be custom made right? most tanks the glass bottom panel is raised but a custom one might not be. I am getting one that isn't raised and am going to be using styrofoam underneath mine. (at the recommendation of the tank builder)

Thank you mluz.

As you know that, Styrofoam is normally use to cover very miner gaps in between to surface. Of course, it can be used under acrylic or glass made tanks.

If I directly put my aquarium on plywood or something similar it would immediately leak, because, if there is any gap between glass and the surface under tank will take more pressure of water and get :eek1:

The water level is adjusted as 5 cm inside the tank, and will drain from 40 x 2 sided Routed teeth in acrylic (You will see how it will be congregate with overflow), and will drain in the boxes. Herbie super silent overflow drain I used in the boxes. (UPDATE will come soon)

My planned is to use 100% area inside the tank for better flow and aquascaping.

The zoos are doing great.... Have you had the chance to frag that bird nest yet?

When are you going to silicon the tank?

Syed,

If you are going to use an external glass overflow box shouldn't you silicone it to the back panel before spray painting it because of adhesion issues ? Or are you going to use a ready made overflow box ?

Sorry for late reply guys.
Mounda,
.. You are right.

I realized after beck panel get painted.... Coloring the back glass with external overfloe is my first esperience. That adhesion issue will be there when overflow boxes going to be silicon on the back glass.

The person who silicone the tank, got the solution. I will post the photos when it’s glued on coming Thursday.

Any suggestion from anyone????

Did not get any chance to frag the bird Nest, even the glass of existing tank is too much dirty, no time for cleaning and maintenence. Even no water changes this week. :(

Just concentrating new tank. :reading:

You know how difficult this is.

Anyway, I got god quality of Plastic Elastomer Foam to put under the tank. Quite good stuff.

The Tank has been silicone this Thursday. Shortly you will see the update.

its got a new address now www.masuae.org

and about ur setup, GO BIGGER on the return or else u'll end up topping of everyday
also the skimmer, think about the octopus extreme or the super reef octopus both of which are better than the needlewheel octo
go with either the sicce pump or the bubble blaster, the bubble blasters are beasts and perfect for ur tank, the sicce is what I have and I love it, but I've only got a 75g

oh and lastly, for the plumbing look at the durso for reducing noise from the overflow
the way u have it (straight pipes) makes a lot of noise.
otherwise u can just use two 90degree elbows to make a durso which is also good (not sure if this works 100%)
u have lots of space so rather than TWO overflows, go with one coast to coast, look it up here on RC and you will see what I mean

Hi KKil4life,
Thanks you for your posting and valuable suggestions. I am facing problem to login in MASUAE. Couple of days before I send a request to Moderator, until today I didn’t receive any reply so no posting.

I want to start my 300G thread on MASUAS as well but cannot login.

:lmao:LOL….. here YOU NEED just little understanding that, whatever the volume of water will return by the pump in the main tank the same volume will drain in the sump….. lol:lolspin:.

BTW I already ordered Tunze top off (3155.000 Osmolator Universal) Hope it will work according Manufacturer promises.:bum:

Lol :lmao:again….. In my existing 120G tank, I am using Weipro 2014 with successful result. What about DNWB-200 needle wheel, it will not work…… lol. Nothing is perfect for any system. My understanding is installing an expensive equipment is not the key of success, you just have to understand that what you are doing.

Stay Tune. You will see more update.

The plumbing Diagram is showing the route of water. I will defiantly post all the photos of equipment, which I will use in any step.

I am using Herbie super silent overflow drain. . . .. :reading: . After long observation and research, me, A.G. (Ahmed) and Nick came on conclusion to use Herbie super silent overflow, which is 100% safe and no voice at all.

as for the herbie, its an awesome system to use

what I meant about using ONE coast to coast rather than two overflows was not for the turnover of water, it has more to do with surface skimming. I might be wrong but have a read thru this

you can still do the plumbing your way, but you just make the overflow box coast to coast
this was u get a larger area for surface skimming

You are right and I am 100% agree with you to skimming the surface of tank as much as possible. Infect before starting anything, I made poll of overflow for 300G tanks, that what will fit for my tank. What I got, result is front of you guys.

Yes, I have been gone through BeanAnimal Silent overflow. But the problem is, it can only be used in the tanks with sump room beside it, not in my case. It requires more space to the back of the tank.

Good idea, I would thing about it. :reading: But i think two pumps will case more heat compare to single pump.

Of course, if aquarium has optimal water condition the fish will not dead immediately. whenever I go for snorkeling and catch fishes. In the bucket, they survive 4 hours without having any stress. 300G is a huge volume if the circulation pump fails.

A 24" tall tank should have 13mm/1/2" glass, but your 10mm is tempered so you should be okay. Keep in mind, the thickness isn't just to limit panel flex, it also creates a larger bond at the seam. The aquarium is only as good as its weakest link.

The related issue is the flex of the thinner panels putting more stress on the seams. Your eurobrace is undersized for this task as it is a structural element like the panels of the tank itself. I recommend adding a 13mm eurobrace under the one you have already siliconed in place. This will give you more security in keeping the tank from bowing/flexing and putting stress on the corner seams.

Cutting channels in the back panel for an external overflow weakens the panel. For this reason, the back panel is usually thicker or tempered. The overflow channels are stronger if a hole saw is used to round the corners of the cut-out. Usually two parallel holes are drilled and a diamond saw is used to join the two holes. The sharp 90 degree angles of your overflow channels are another weak link. A strip of glass siliconed perpendicular (90 degree angle) along the back wall will act as a brace. The overfow boxes themselves are traditionally used as a form of bracing, but in your case the glass looks too thin to be structural. It is stronger to make one longer glass box rather than two smaller ones. If the panel wasn't tempered you could drill two new holes and cut one long "coast-to-coast" overflow for better surface skimming. The way you have it now may allow particles and surfactants to be trapped on the surface between the two boxes.

I would also add a 3" x 13mm eurobrace at the bottom of the tank along the front and back only. This will strengthen the joint by decreasing deflection and offering a much bigger bond area.

I like the paint effect. Stephen Spotte's book http://books.google.ca/books?id=tMeuQ4v_m0YC&dq=stephen+spotte+aquarium+book&printsec=frontcover&source=in&hl=en&ei=XYUXTNLeDIOBlAfj27DBCw&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=12&ved=0CEIQ6AEwCw#v=onepage&q=stephen%20spotte%20aquarium%20book&f=false lists the exact colour codes used by public aquariums to match the look of the sea in a similar gradient style to your paint job.

Thank you mr. Wilson,

As you can see in the photo 12mm bracing is ready, which is going to be silicon on the bottom of the tank.

I used all tampered Glass. The bracing which is beside the tank will silicon in the bottom of tank. I think I have to add more bracing as you said under the one I have already silicone in place, it will give more security.

The back panel is tempered and the overflow channels made with two parallel holes in the corners to make them round for more security. Of course, the corners of overflow boxes are not sharp as 90 degree; these are round.

The coast-to-coast overflow is out of the topic, because of tempered glass.:( In my 120 gallon tank, there is only 4 x 4 inches overflow box, I didn,t find any problem to skimming the surface.
Good suggestion, I will add 2 more 12 or 13mm eurobrac at the bottom of the tank from front to back only.

Thanks for likeness of paint effect.

Thank you for your valuable suggestions. :)

Stay tuned.......

Tempered glass increases the strength of the glass, it does not reduce bowing. Providing you have adequate bracing on the top and bottom your 10mm is ok. I have 2 metal rims on my tank and it is 26" deep. The length of the tank is another factor when determining the thickness of the glass.

How thick are the overflow boxes ? I would silicone the gaskets to the glass just to make sure everything is sealed tight. I noticed that the glass worker removed some paint off the upper edges to provide a clean surface for the overflow box to hang onto the back, clever idea but why didn't he remove the edges to increase the surface area of the joint ?

Looking good Syed, you could start cycling in a week or 2.

Thank you Mounda,

What kind of metal you used for your tank rims. Is it iron or aluminum? I made a rim only for bottom of the tank. Planning to have another rim for the top of tank, but after water test, if it needs.

I am bit confuse here that, if I use Iron for top rim, after time it will definitely get rust, and I don’t think so that aluminum will able to hold the pressure of glass and will help to reduce bowing.

I already have many brace on the top and bottom; I hope which will support to reduce bowing.

Overflow box:
<a href="http://s1042.photobucket.com/albums/b425/syedjilani/?action=view&current=78.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1042.photobucket.com/albums/b425/syedjilani/78.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

I used 8mm thickness glass for back wall of overflow, which attached with tank back wall which is 10mm. Base glass is 8mm as well, all other glasses i.e. both sides, and front glasses are 4mm to reduce the weight of overflow.

Infect I removed the color from the top of the back panel, but it was just spoiling the paintwork, nothing else. The overflow boxes attached quite well on painted surface, and looking much stronger. I put a lot of force to check that they can hold water weight and will able to stick in future on the painted background.

It will spoil the whole look of background if he removes the surface area of the joint. Everything is quite fine and strong.

I have to wait until silicon dry properly. Most probably coming Monday or Tuesday I will test water.

I didn't realize that some of the glass was thicker (8mm), I only saw the thin stuff (4mm). This is good.

Metal braces/frame should be epoxy coated, galvanized, or stainless steel. I recently worked on a 1000 gallon tank that had broken due to a metal frame that had rusted and expanded to break the front glass which was 5 layers of 1/4" (6.35mm) laminated and tempered safety glass. The total thickness was 1 1/4" or 31.75 mm tempered & laminated. Yes, aluminum has too much flex unless it is a profile (channel, I beam, or cross like 80/20). You should also use a layer of neoprene foam or EPDM rubber to cushion the contact between the metal and glass.

Yes, you can silicone directly onto the painted surface for the overflow box. It will not let go.

Looks good for the lights Syed.
Are you planning to have SE or DE bulbs as in this area SE bulbs are harder to find.
Might consider the bulbs before purchasing the ballasts as you might need to shift to DE bulbs in case yo udon't want to ship each time. In that case the Lumenbright doesn't come in DE large it only comes as a pendant for DE so not a reflector and comes in only one one size the mini which is 16.5x16.5 x7 and needs to be on a different level from the water. So check all those before you finalize the plans of your canopy...
Also try to get decent ballasts at the same time (IceCaps...)or at least check that those match the best with the bulbs you plan to run)'ll have a lot more power with the LB and dimming makes acclimating a bit easier...
Best to get the dimmable ones if your reef was running on regular reflectors we use here as you
Then expect to pay around 4-500 USD more in shipping and add to that a bit more for customs. Been through all that for some time to get my ligthing and the best way for me was to go with the Groupbuy they organized from Dubai and that saved me a bit in shipping....

The whole idea of using the metal frame on top is to have more space on top since the brace will be on the outside perimeter instead of being across.

Stainless steel is the way to go but even that will rust with time. We are talking about salt water. You could powder coat your rims to provide an extra layer of safety.

Instead of using foam or neoprene to cushion the metal frame to the glass I used silicone, it fills the gaps and is slightly compressible.

The problem regarding the overflow is not a short term one but instead it is a long term issue. The silicone has adhered to the paint, the problem will arise if the paint chips. Since you got this done professionally then I doubt you will experience this issue any time soon. Another point to consider is the adherence of the silicone to the overflow box and the vertical pressure exerted by the water, if the paint is not hard enough and the silicone has adhered well to the paint then the overflow box's weight might pull the paint off. However again, you adhered the back of the overflow box to a very large surface area increasing the weight load on a larger area of paint so the pressure per inch has been reduced drastically.

You could have used some rock work to cover up any paint that was removed for silicone to adhere :)

Just some point to take into consideration.

I will use SE bulbs. My understanding about MH is that, DE has less PAR and more UV radiations, which promote to burn corals head. .

Here we have quite a big verity of SE available in the market. I am trying to make pendant for SE here locally. I have already talked with the factory that can make Lumen bright according my specifications and same as what they are selling in USA. Your oil base paint will last forever as long as you don't fill the tank with cold water. I have seen oil base paint peel, bubble and chip many times when cold water is added for the initial test fill. The cold water causes condensation on the glass beneath the paint. As you have stated your paint will be safe at 26 degrees... even with 50 degree Jeddah weather :)

Water based acrylic paint actually sticks better than oil or polyurethane paint. It is also more tolerant to condensation as it can "breathe" better. I have taken paint off of hundreds of tanks and oil is easier than acrylic. Removing acrylic paint works best when you soak the tank in a vat of warm water then use a raiser blade. Oil paint can be removed by razor blade, but once you get started it peels off in sheets without water. Your tank will have good adhesion because it was painted with a sprayer in thin layers. The biggest mistake with oil paint is doing it in one thick coat. It takes three coats with any kind of paint.

Don't worry, you have a lot of surface area so the paint is not the weak link.

In normal conditions 5 liters of water I lost every day (evaporation) from 120g, adding 5 liters was not a big issue since I started 120g, but when Nick told me that 9 liters :eek2: of water evaporate every day from his 210G, then I decided to kill the problem and at last before starting tank installed 5 stages Reverse Osmosis Systems with the help of Nick:beachbum:. Deionizer will be installed later along with UV sterilizer.

Thanks Nick for suggestion, purchasing and specially installation.

Here it goes.......

5 stages Reverse Osmosis Systems

The Box.

<a href="http://s1042.photobucket.com/albums/b425/syedjilani/?action=view&current=95.jpg" target="_blank"><imgsrc="http://i1042.photobucket.com/albums/b425/syedjilani/95.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Syed,

Congrats on the new RO system. Just want to point out something.

The RO systems available around here are mainly for drinking water meaning that the stage after the RO membrane is a post membrane cartridge that converts the water into palatable water for drinking. The 5th stage usually adds minerals to the water so you want to check that out.

If your system is like mine you can modify the RO/DI system to give dual outputs. A DI water faucet and a drinking water one (RO+post membrane cartridge). So it's good for the fish and could be good for your health if you use normal tap water.

Good thing you have a very well designed aquarium stand. The sump will fit in easily. Some stand designs don't allow for easy installation and removal if something goes wrong.

Keep up the good work.

Yes of course, from the front sump cannot go inside, I made sump length 140cm to insert from the left side of the stand. Shortly you will see the shot sump is on it’s place.

I am using Reef Octopus DNWB-200 Recirculating Protein Skimmer. People who told you as what you said, do that have bad result from Hurricone CAT-1Internal Protein Skimmer? Of course Supper skimmer 5000 Series with Bubble blaster is better than Hurricone Cat-1, but if you already bought it, then better to use, i am sure that you can have optimal result with this toy according what manufacturer clamed.

Reef Octopus DNWB-200 Recirculating Protein Skimmer is best for 300 Gallon, hope it will handle the bio load of tank.

Yes, of course, there will be no bubble at all in whole system except what protein skimmer creates.

I have already planned to kill the bubbles wherever it will appear. :uzi: . . :hammer:

:)

The DNWB-200 is a pretty small skimmer for a 300gallon tank however since people have been getting away with skimmerless tanks I guess only time will tell how good it will perform on your tank. You have been able to run a large tank on a Weipro so in comparison your new Octopus will work wonders :)

The hurricone is the same build but with a laguna askoll pump on it opposed to the bubble blaster. I think the huricone will be ok on that size Maroun, the new XP series with bubble blasters are pretty cool though, got one myself and loving it.

Syed, what kind of return pump are you running and what is the output ? You might need a couple of powerheads at the ends to eliminate dead spots and create a wide flow. Loc-lines nozzles provide a more linear flow compared to the powerheads such as tunze, vortechs or koralias.

mr.wilson

From my experience, lockline can leak and cavitate (suck air in a venturi fashion) when used above the water level. Also make sure that you have a siphon break hole(s) so that your deeper nozzle in the tank doesn'y back siphon when the pump is shut off. I like flare nozzles for distribution across the surface.

Are you sure your sump is big enough to hold all the water that overflows and drains from the pipes when the return pump is off. Even the skimmer shutting off raises the water level in the sump when a bit as it drains.

I assume your drain is a siphon & gravity (vented standpipe) overflow?

Good information, I have never used lockline and flare nozzzles, so no experience of what it actually does. I will see what will suitable to divert flow from return. I also like flare nozzles, because of shape and I think it can through water longer than other stuff. Any suggestion?

I made single hole in both returns for break siphon.

I checked sump backup capacity, it has much more capacity once all the pumps (Return and skimmer) off.

Initially my plan to use Herbie super silent drain system, but I will change vented standpipes with HGB (Hofer Gurgle Buster) In overflow.

Pretty small mean small in capacity or small in size….

Manufacturer recommendation for DNWB 200 skimmer is 300G with heavy load. If I do not consider manufacturer what he is claiming, than I will not able to finalize to buy anything for 300g.
As I mentioned earlier that when I was using weipro with successful result how will not be able to get good result from RO.

Just stay tuned, you will see what will come out from Reef octopus.

Atman MP 8500 is for return. Again, I bought it because I trust what manufacturer claim, 8650L/H at the height of 5.8 meters. Which is 7.3 times of total volume, I think this is more the enough.

I agree with you to get good circulation of flow at each spot, need power heads. Planned to buy 2 VorTech MP40w ES Propeller Pump. Hope it will full enough for time being.

152 Gallon filled. I have to fill this maximum by today evening.

UPDATE

Since tank is not fill until overflow, and no water in Sump, so no circulation and protein skimmer is working now.

For safe side I put both sides small power heads attached with air intake for oxygen and for little circulation.

Hope NES will not lose it optimal condition, as there is no protein skimmer and circulation in the tank.

UPDATE

Tank Filled by yesterday. I put some more cured live rock. Since there is no substrate at the bottom, I can see small creature is finding their food on the bottom glass and swimming around. I am sure this is an indication that the water is still healthy. Everything is going fine; otherwise, all the creature may die.

An Accident:

I felt that I am strong enough :artist: and will able to place sump inside the stand, while I was trying to be strong and tried to put sump inside the stand it hit the corner of bottom glass of sump to floor and a piece of glass came out. . :hmm2: . . :furious:… , i called the guy who made the sump, confirm him to fix the problem as soon as possible.

<a href="http://s1042.photobucket.com/albums/b425/syedjilani/?action=view&current=135.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1042.photobucket.com/albums/b425/syedjilani/135.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Immediately called the factory and ordered new 10mm Glass instead of 8mm thickness, I arrange new bottom glass and picked the guy at the night to open the entire sump and replace the bottom of sump with new glass. ……

It took four hours but at last, we ended up with new another sump early in the morning.:fun4:

With the help of that guy I placed the sump inside the stand and filled fresh water and start circulation (inside the sump only). Isn’t it funny tank is full of Salt water and sump is full of fresh water.

Wow if I chipped my tank it would be 2-4 weeks to get a repair/replacement... where is the pic of the life in your tank :D
