View Full Version : Is my Euro-Reef RS-80 wearing out?

About 6 months ago I purchased a Euro-Reef RS-80. It was pulling great skimmate on my 40 breeder. I wasn't feeding heavily but I was dosing oyster feast every few days. Inhabitants were:

Coral Beauty
False Percs x 2
6-line wrasse

I upgraded to a 58g oceanic and replaced a broken pin-wheel on the skimmer. I used new substrate and water, but same rock. I have cut down on feeding and discontinues Oyster Feast for the time being. The new inhabitants are:

Coral Beauty
Flame Hawkfish

My skimmate production has really gone down in the new tank. Could the stock Ecoplus pump have lost it's punch? I did clean the skimmer well but it has been running on the new tank for about 2 weeks. Just wanted wondering if this is normal. I assumed that there would still be a lot of junk on the rocks.

Start feeding heavy again and see what happens. Sorry not familiar with Ecoplus pumps just the Sedra's I have two ER skimmers CS5/3 aka RS80 and a CS8/2

What skimmer did you have prior?

Probably less nutrients in the water now, I would just give it some time.

Usually they don't start up and cant spin the pin wheel if they wear out.

I figured as much. It's producing foam right up the neck so I guess I'll chalk it up to cleaner water.
