Installing AquaNote on iPhone?

I tried to download Aquanote app to my iphone but got this message:
"Application not compatible. this application reuries the iPhone 3.1 Software Update". how do I check the current software update on my iphone? and how to update it? sorry i'm a novice at these stuffs:)

Run iTunes.
Connect the iPhone to your computer.
Click on the phone on the left panel.
A page will appear that shows you information about your iPhone.
Click on Check for Update.
Follow the prompts to update the iPhone software.
