I am going to use this as a grow out tank for some Zoo's and Chalice's- I am only running a Pan World 10PX since that's the smallest External Return Pump I can Find. I am going to use a 150W MH fixture with a 20K bulb on order. I an using 3/4" PVC piping, I was going to use a 1" PVC but I though it was to big for a tank with size and a 1/2 was just to small to use. it will have a 10G sump as well. But here is the beginning of a new friendship...

Yeah it's going to be a neat little setup, I already have my MH fixture that I got from www.fishneedit.com it was cheap but built very well for a small fixture. I am going to try and finish up the plumbing tonight and try to have water running by the end of the week. The by next week get some Sand and LR going and start my cycle process, hopefully it's a short one... :)... I will get pictures up once I am done with my plumbing.

How do you like the MH fixture so far? Its a very nice price for a nice little setup. I'm just a little skeptical on the price being so cheap.

Well can't give a good review yet since I don't have any corals in it and I am not running everyday, but the the construction of the fixture seems to be pretty good comes with a ballast and a hanging kit. Looks good for a MH HQI fixture, but this is my first time running MH so will see how the out come is when is all fired up under some sweet corals I have in line for it....

I will be using PVC also for the return since my return pump is external, I don't think I ever seen a external return pump with a flex hose attached to it.... but in any case I like the look of the PVC, as for my stand I know it looks ghetto but it works...:artist:

Cool build. Only thing is the baffles on your sump are wrong. Hopefully it wont be an issue for you.

that makes no sense. on your second diagram the bubbles will float to the top and not go under the middle baffle."bubble will float to water level" so if the bubbles get over to the baffle they will float to water level which would be the top of the middle baffle making it essentially just something for the water cascade over and not trapping the bubbles for them to pop before exiting the baffle system.

Actually you can do it that way to but this way is more effective, I've used this sump design a few times now with no Micro bubbles at all, IMO it's better to have the return in the middle of the sump that way you have room to work from each end until you reach the point of the return.

Plus I use very small pieces of LR to put in between the baffles to catch any micro bubbles that would occur. But even without the LR it works fine.

Also it depends on how far apart your spacing your baffles in between one another, I fine that separating them with 2 CD cases which is less than an inch can help with your micro bubbles...

Well I completed the return today. Finally got the Front casing from Premium Aquatics- Anyhow everything work out great I only found one leak which was by the return portion of the bulkhead- may have been a bad seal. Any nothing like some Aquarium Silicone glue to fix this.

So the worst happened yesterday and I was Jinx. I was pouring water into the tank to check for leaks again and before you know it crack, crack, crack... I was like WTH!!!!!! The bottom on the Overflow side Sump Cracked in 4 places by the Bulkhead... I was wondering what went wrong... Finally I notice then the tank was not leveled with the stand it was clearly 3/4inch away from sitting flat on the surface. I had it level with shims, but the real person responsible for this was none other than my little girls while I was at work they ended up removing the shims and were playing with them in there rooms they thought it was a good idea to use them for play money in there purses that they were carrying around... They were small shims. These kids I couldn't even be mad at them...LOL.. But all well back to the drawing board. Oh and don't ask how they got them out... I have no clue...My 4 year old know how to throw Strikes playing the Wii Sports game.. Hell I couldn't even turn the TV on when I was 4....LOL

I will still use a ten gallon sump I might not drill this time since they are delicate and run hoses instead of PCV. Let see how this is going to pan out. Well as of right now the whole project is on hold until I get another Tank and Hoses... I'll update once I get everything squared away...

Sorry to hear that. Hope you can get it back up shortly.

Spa flex may work a little better than the pvc since you won't have to worry to much about the different angles to get to the sump.
