I was thinking of getting one of these to eat hair algae. I have maxijets with strainers on a wave timer. Would the sea hare get caught in these? Turbo snails don't seem to last long. Foxface and Yellow tang will not eat this algae. I have GFO that I change every month but still too much algae.

Reef safe in terms of not eating anything or things like that. They are like bulldozers if you have loose frags though.

I would worry that they get caught in the strainer.

Do not buy a blue spot sea hare if you want it to eat hair algea because they do not ... The big ugly brown Reg Sea Hares Mow down hair Algea. I have sold many a blue spot and have had no one confirm they eat Hair algea even tried it myself most of my customers will not buy the blue spots anymore & only carry the Reg brown sea hares .

by Reg brown sea hare you mean the Dolabella sea hare right?
I LOVE the dolabellas! I've used many over the years to help me with HA battles and they always do the job they are hired for!

Go with the dolabella. Dropped one in my 55 and in about two weeks it is gone and he doubled in size!!!

better solution would be to figure out where your import of nutrients that are fueling the algae are coming from!!!!

Will a dolobella starve after it consumes the hair algae or do they also feed on other things?

It will eventually starve to death. One of the sea critters we need to share among reefers :)

Bummer, there aren't many reefers where I live...

Mine used to love Nori, after he cleaned the tank. He would eat it out of my hand. Sucked it in like eating spaghetti. Fun to watch too.
