Well I just got a new blue gigantea today. I have to say wow this thing is really neat. I got it right from a wholesaler who never even opened it up at his place. So I would have to say from sea to tank in less than 48 hours. I plan on keeping this as a log on its care good or bad. Its a good sized I would have to guess its close to 9" from one side to the other. I cant wait to see how big it really gets once it get settled in. But I guess on with the pictures. They were taken with in just a couple of mins after it was placed in my tank. I did do a drip on it for close to 3 hours to get it use to my tank. Please enjoy and let me know what you think about it.

Well if anyone else is looking for one the guy that I got mine from at http://www.oceanproaquatics.com/shop...0579b5bf11e9f5 just told me that he got 3 more in today and they look even larger than the one that I got. And the price you cant say anything thing bad about it. I belive that they are also going for $125 each plus shipping. I had mine shipped by airport dash and it worked out great. It might say that they are sold out but email him and he has them in stock or can get it for you if he is out. I had to only wait about 3 days. I know that it says that its a haddoni but I told him that I was wanting a gig and he pulled through for me.

the guy selliing the carpet seems very fishy to me............

for example:

He has this green carpet listed as WYSIWYG:

http://www.oceanproaquatics.com/shop/carpet-anemone-yellow-stichodactyla-haddoni-wysiwyg-p-19811.html.

this is a picture from RHS, it has been posted on RHS for as long as i can remember.

yes you did..looks like a very nice nem...quick question

I got a blue gigantea recently as well...does the underside of your have spots on it? mine doesnt. I've been told Dr. Mac (where I bought it from) that it was in fact a gigantea, and others on reefcentral have identified it as gigantea, but I see no spots.

I will take some more tomorrow. The light are out and I have been talking with some family that just flew in from out of state. But its doing great and is fully expanded. My clowns have taken to it sometime today and are playing tag in it. But if I had to take a guess on how big it is today I would have to say around 14" fully expanded with the MH's on for a few hours. But a picture update and if I can figure out to post a video I will do that to tomorrow.

Beautiful carpet AND beautiful clam that it's next to! Has the mouth been completely closed since you've gotten it yet? Just wondering if a gig's mouth will ever close tightly like a BTA's when it's puckered up.

keep your eye on that anemone- it's not out of the woods yet.

is there a BTA in there?

I agree with Gary. Definitely not out of the woods yet.

We all have our own methods for dealing with anemones like this, and we all swear by our own method, but if that was my anemone, I'd be feeding it as much as possible. I've been nursing a gigantea similar to yours for several months now. I try to feed it every day. I soak mysis, krill, and other similar sized foods in vitamins and amino acids, then turn off most of the flow and squirt the food at the anemone with a turkey baster. It's zooxanthellae are coming back, and its feeding response has drastically improved. It hasn't really grown any, but it's looking better all the time. HTH.

I would have to say that its mouth has been closed since the second day. As for eating this thing eats like a pig. I have been feeding it everyday. And it dont take it long to suck it in once it gets it.

it is lookiing very very good......

Congrats!

if it we me i would cut down the feeding to 1 time ever other day and small bits instead of large. more is not always better.

1fishkeeper

Im going to start cutting back on the feedings. I will go to 3 times a week for a week then 2 times a week for a week then 1 time a week from there on. But that dont go for what it catches out of the water from feeding thats all free game.

Very cool, I'm not too much of a nem guy, but those blue carpets are really tempting.

The nems are really cool animals, the clowns love them,I have a yellow gigantea and green haddoni, both are eating well. I am just like you, never a nem guy, usually into sticks ha ha but just love how the clowns host in their new homes.

From what I know, S. Gigantea have spots on the underside of their disk which are called verrucae. If yours doesn't, then a red flag should go up. It could very well be a S. Haddoni.

IMHO, people shouldn't be buying S. Gigantea when they're not even sure how to properly identify it. S. Gigantea are in my opinion one of the toughest inverts to keep alive in this hobby. Many die in aquariums. Just my .002. :)

Yes they did sale it to me as a gig. I sent a few emails back and forth between them and myself. What he told me is when he orders them they just come in as carpet anemones. He went through his order and pulled this one because he knew that is what I was looking for. He gave me a call around 5pm and by 5:30 it was at the airport on its way to me.
