Some very nice colonies you have there, did you grow them out from frags or are they wild grown?

Hey what is difference between prostatra and millie? To me they looks very alike, only appears that prostatra has bigger coralite.

How long have you had this Acropora in your tank? Does it usually have little polyp extension? Reason that I ask is because I have one similar to this that also has little PE. Thanks

Is pic number 5(strawberry shortcake) common in australia? Just bought a frag of that one from LA.

Absolutely beautiful tank! What is your lighting and distance from lamps to your main layer of SPS? It seems to me a pretty big distance between light source and corals, but color is well maintained.

This tank really make me believe that in order to achieve best overall looking of an SPS tank (say the best FTS look), one should really go mimic and just keep your top 1 or 2 colony from each color and give them enough space to grow and show off - given you don't have a monster tank.

But it is tough, people become 'greedy' when they are really addicted.

I thought we can see/get most of them in LSF/online retail/or other reefer's tank.:)

Yes it is pretty common I also have a colony just a little smaller than Daryns. Not the best photos but you get the idea.

Mine has been in my tank for around 4 months now. I have a 30" cube with a 400watt 12k reeflux, 4x24watt t5 (2xati blue+, 2xKZ new gen 2xtunze 6105, deltec apf600 and I use 2 part along well dosing tropic marin mineral salts.

I have found the SS is very yellow in high light and a little more green when in lower light. It looks great both ways but I quite like the look of it in the medium to high light.

you guys can get coral from all over the world but we can only get local coral. A lot of our nicest coral is exported and we never even to get to see them, esp acan & chalice, we can not get rainbow acan or any of the nice chalice in aus as all exported.

Nothing overpriced about them. It is what the market is willing to pay. If they weren't selling at that price, the cost would come down. A HUGE part of the price of Aussie corals here in the States is the freight to get them here. Have you priced out a plane ticket to Australia lately? Ok, imagine how much for a pallet or a cargo container, then add charges for CITES permits, factor in any DOA's, and a markup for the importer, wholesaler, and retailer......

Trust me, there are plenty of these Strawberry Shortcake colonies coming in, it is just the hot coral right now. As more people start to grow them, they will come down in price.

Like anything else in life, you get what you pay for. These Australian acros are coming in much healthier than their Indonesian counterparts.

We pay a premium for better collection practices, better shipping practices, higher freight and in a lot of cases, nicer corals.

Some people opt for quantity, others quality. Personally, I fall into the latter category ;)

I think you already did by your first comment, but honestly, if I hadn't had the price / demand discussion a dozen times already this month, I would, but honestly I am tired of debating it. No offense. Everyone has their opinion, and it is what it is. We see this same debate all the time here on RC, every time there is a new hot coral....

To the original poster, sorry for the sidetrack, you have some awesome specimens there!!

Sure. This is it untouched. It was too blue with my P&S so I adjusted the white balance. The green coralites really pop nicely thanks to my lighting. My lighting is 20k Radium + Actinic. I really like this coral.

It is orange with green, definitely no purple in it. My lighting makes the orange color a little more red'ish.

Is it normal for the polyp extension to be very short? From far away it looks like it has no PE but upon closer inspection you can see small polyps. Im so used to milleporas having long PE. Either way these aussi acro's that are coming in are amazing, you guys are so lucky to live so close to the reef.

ryanrid
06/24/2010, 12:08 AM
mine also has short polops unlike most of the other millis, could possibly be the same piece then. ill try to get a pic of what i have left of mine, hard to get a pic as it is behind a stag or 2 now.
