I'm contemplating changing my lighting setup from a 250mh Reeflux 10k lamp to a 8x24 Powermodule (50g cube). For those who have made the change, have you seen increased growth?

I know the color difference must be phenominal. I don't want to make this into a T5 vs MH thread. Just looking for anyone who has done this and seen an improvment in growth.

TIA

I have T5 right now and no doubt it's great and customizable color options. If you have enough light I think it's very good, but why not contemplate a combo? That's what I'm thinking of right now. I guess it's just the best of both worlds: intensity and color!

But that's just my two cents and I hope everything turns out well for you! Good luck!

I had trouble finding shady spots for my rainbow acans so they look like crap now. SPS growth and color generally has been better. Probably will go combo next time.

I use both, 20k Radiums and a combination of 4 T5 bulbs. Total wattage is around 750.

Can't live without one or the other. Must have both!

I prefer t5's to halides. I made the switch a tank or two ago. Hoping before I run out of my bulb stockpile I will be convinced enough to swich to LED>

I switched from a 250w evc 20k to a 6 bulb powermodule over my cube. Overall the tank looked much brighter, growth increased, and I even had to acclimate corals due to the increase in light. I do miss the intensity directly under the halide to get top color out of certain SPS but I am happy with the results from the powermodule.

I use both. T5's get rid of shadows and have more uniform light distribution. 400W MH's IME punch light down further but also punch a nice hole in your electricity budget.

I've been playing around with the idea of makeing the switch to all T5s. One thing I've notice is the ballast makes a huge difference with getting the max high out put of the T5. IMO, as far as retro kits go the IceCap 660 4/3 bulb kit seems to be one of the best, ATI for the full fixture. Again just my opnion.
