Leaf fish venom

I just recently plunged into my first predatory fish and was wondering if anyone has ever gotten stuck with one of the barbs of these fish. I'd like not to ever get stuck, but if I did, I'd like to know what to do if it's really bad venom or something that you just have to ride out. Thanks for any info. I'll post a pic of him/her later when I get home.

im curious about the same thing. is that a Amblyapistus taenionotus? im amazed at the colors, looks good!

oh sorry its a Taenianotus triacanthus right? guess i should of read the title first.

Yes, it's an Taenianotus triacanthus. He's pretty cool. It was a darker color at the store, but they had a darker tank. It's cool how it shifted its color.

leaf fish venom is reportedly about the same as lionfish venom. personally, i dunno anyone who has ever been stung by a leaf scorp. the fact that you'd pretty much have to put your hand directly on the fish as well as the flexibility of their long, thin dorsal spines also makes it harder to get poked. bottom line, i can't imagine ever getting stung by one unless you really work at it.

that being said waspfishes (such as the c.ockatoo you mentioned) pack a much more potent sting, as do the stingfishes.

with scorpionfish in general, the dose= potency. (stonefish are quite different).

Anyway as greg mentions you really got to make a concerted effort to get stung by one of these guys, and even if you do happen to get stung, I cant imagine getting a potent dose.
Its not to say it wont hurt- I guarantee it will hurt, but nothing like Inimicus or even a dwarf fuzzy

Gotcha, thanks. So nothing to worry about that a little thumb sucking and a band aid wouldn't cure?

IMHO, it's more like respect the fish and be careful so you don't get popped. i suspect that the standard "apply heat to the area for 30 mins or so" would be more like it, but it really depends on the severity of the sting (dwell time of the spine in the skin, the force of the "poke", and how much venom is injected).

the point i was trying to make is that i think the chances of getting stung by a leaf scorp are pretty small, much less than getting stung by a lion.
