Is lr in fuge a must?

I already have 3" sand bed and Chaeto in there so there isn't much more room. I do have lr in there but thinking about taking it out to allow the Chaeto more room to grow. Is the lr beneficial in my case?

take the LR out and give the macro more room.

as an option to consider, you can add more surface area for bacteria by using brightwell zeolite rocks (lr rubbles may work also) in a tlf reactor.

If you want to raise pods then the live rock would probably help, but other than that is not really helpful except for additional filtration (unless you would just be moving it to your DT).
