How long should it take for my Pearlberry frag to fully color up? The tips are blue but the lower portion is browned around the polyps not green. It was mostly brown when I got it. At the upper part of my tank slightly off center to a 250 SE 10k reeflux. Should I move it or wait? Had it about a month.

make sure you dont move it around...just let it be. Mine got completely brown after I had some tank issues...and i just epoxied it to the rock adn didnt touch it. Granite I had soem red bugs too that didnt help. but its slowly coming back to its normal beauty. Just leave it alone and it should color up nicely.

Have 2 frags of this I got from socal MAX. They both went way brown, but are now lightening up. I moved them around a bit. The encrusting growth on the frag plugs is nice and bright. I'm hoping for that baby blue to show up any day now.

Will the really nice colors show up under 10kK? Mine is looking good under 20kK.

Mag is at 1350. I dont have a potassium test but have just started dosing Brightwells but slowly to see if there is any change. Anyone know an approx Potassium dosage for a 40 breeder? Or should I just keep watching for a change? My other colors have better color under this 10k I don't expect 20k color. I need growth too I lost a lot last summer in the heat. Po4 is at.02 also

Never added or dosed potasium and haven't had any problems with coral colors. Pearlberry unlike some of the other ORA corals IMHO needs lots and lots of light.

Doesn't look like you have a color problem to me either! LOL. How high do you have your lights off the water? mine is about 11 inches off the water, is that too high? That coral is probably 4 inches from the top surface.

Nope that seems about where I have em. I have 400W radiums though with luminarcs.

Here is mine up high under 250 watt radium and 6t5s... This one loves light IMO, I also had it in high flow. The colony is still around, not as beautiful, lost some color when I moved, but is quickly regaining it's health...

I guess I will give it some more time to see if it makes some improvements before I start moving it around. The plug is encrusted pretty good and it seems healthy so I will be patient. Thanks guys and you have some great color on those pieces, hope to get there.

seminolecpa,

Is that an actinic shot or what? Super blue, I love it!

Nope, just a plain top down shot with 400W Radiums. I have Reefbrite LED supplements that were on for that shot but they really don't make much of a difference with the halides on. Here is a shot from last November with just the Halides and you can see some rock for color contrast.

Holy balls! I need to get mine looking like this again. Not sure if that will ever happen since I'm working with only T5.

How far away from the 250-watt Radium was this one?

Always on the highest part of my reef, usually somewhere around 10-12" under halide lamp.
Thanks,

nikesb, i think pearlberries can develope a wide range of colors (all are nice). Your frag definitely could be a pearlberry, but even if it wasnt. It seems like a frag that will look just as nice.

I got mine from Saltwaterfish over a year ago and it arrived with good color and grew well. It never browned out. Color has always been great and growth has been good.
