Hello all,
I am slowly figuring out this controller and now I would like to set-up web access.

I have set up a static IP for the Apex and my DynDNS program. However, I cant seem to connect the two.

I am using a wirelss game adapter and can see that from my router software and have the port forwarding turned on for that. There is no way for me to forward the static IP for the Apex since it is going through the wireless adapter.

When I use the DynDNS Open Port Tool I have the port open but nothing is there. What am I doing wrong?

I am using the AT&T 2 wire gateway (router and modem combo # 2701HG-B) and a Linksys dual band wireless adapter WET610N.

Any help would be great. I travel a good bit and the ability to access the controller was why I originally made the investment.

Thanks

You need to configure the port forwarding in the 2Wire to point to the Apex IP address, not to the WGA's.

In the 2 wire you cant select IP address to forward, only the IP device and the WGA is the only thing I can see. I dont see a way to forward just the IP since it needs a host to get aroudn the firewall?? This is confusing to me so I apologize for the confusion I may cause you guys in trying to helpme figure this out.

the WGA is the only thing I can see

This is a known problem with the 2Wire routers. There's some threads on this with screen shots and there's a write up on page 31 of the User Guide with links to the threads. There's also a link to the 2Wire support page that discusses this problem. In short, turn off DHCP on the Apex, assign a static address then go into one of the Uverse settings pages and define that new 'computer' with that IP address. Then it will appear in your port forwarding page.

I cant seem to find a thread that explains how it was solved. Most seem to figure it out and not post how they did it.

It seems that the main issue is that I cant set up the port forward from the apex IP but only the WGA. I can configure everything like it is supposed to be but that seems to be the one issue I cant solve - how to port forward and IP that I cant see.

These 2wires are a true PITA!

as a clarification - on my particuliar router/modem model - there is no way to set up another IP - you can only use drop down boxes for the IP's that it sees.

Here is a thought - Could I hardwire around the WGA temporarily so that the network would see the IP address - and port forward that, then put it back on the WGA - it will show not connected but I may be able to still forward the IP?

I dont know how these IT guys do this for a living!!!!

anyone out there had any luck with this? I am still sitting here baffled! I tried it hardwired and I could not even find the Apex??

Someone has to have the same or similiar setup.

Thanks guys.

Are you able to get into the modem's management console?

didnt know there was such a screen but I am able to access it. Now what?

I'm guessing here so this may or may not work.

On the left side, down at the bottom in the 'advanced' section, select 'dns resolve page'. Once there, try to add your apex controller using the controller host name (usually 'apex') and IP address. If it accepts it, then go back out to the regular configuration menu and see if the apex now appears as a computer.

OK I will give it a shot however, I went to Advanced - Static routes and can see the Aex IP there 192.168.1.50 subnet 255.255.255.255 and interface bridge0:2 it also shows up again further down as 192.168.1.50 subnet 255.255.255.0 and the same bridge0:2.

Why would it be in there twice and with 2 different subnet masks?

aquamanic

see the Aex IP there 192.168.1.50 subnet 255.255.255.255

That's a Russ question but I don't think that's right. That last octet of the mask should be 0 not 255.

When I did the DNS resolve - it removed the subnet 255.255.255.0 version of the same IP but it is still not visable from the home network page.

usctrack

It changed the subnet to 192.168.1.0 and left the gateway 192.168.1.50 subnet 255.255.255.0 and bridge0:2

I have no idea what all that means BTW

Thinking about it, that 255 subnet is probably right since that's a static route table, not DHCP.

I'm at the end of what I know about these but I think your solution lies somewhere in these advanced configuration pages. Somebody that knows more about networking (that means just about anyone) needs to take it from here.

If you go to the back of the 2Wire User Guide located here http://www.2wire.com/pages/pdfs/2701HG_user_guide.pdf there's more doc on how these pages are used.

ok - I figured out why I had the 192.168.1.50 showing - I had turned on the Public Routed Subinterface to see what would happen. I have turned it back off and now both of the .50 IP's are gone.

ok, I think I might have found something:

In the Apex Network Setup - my settings are as follows (I think this could be a part of the problem)

Apex IP - 192.168.1.50
Net Mask 255.255.255.0
Gateway 192.168.1.254 (same as my 2wire IP??)
Primary DNS 192.168.1.254 - THIS COULD BE THE PROBLEM
Secondary DNS 192.168.1.254 ????

What should these settings be?

RussM

Those settings all look proper. The default gateway and DNS addresses should be the same as your router's LAN IP address, so they are fine.

Crud! I thought I was onto something!

Ok if I define a Statir Route in the Advanced option under the Management tab - will that create an IP for the Apex? If so what do I use for subnet IP and Gateway IP? I tried using the same thing and it wont work and I dont want to screw anything up (any more that I probably already have :) )

Any luck? I am about to start the process of web access and I also have 2 wire router from ATT.

No luck yet? Did you get anywhere when you tried? If so please let me know your settings. I also emailed 2 wire and they may be able to help but I have been out of town for a convention for a week so any progress has stalled.

I got it working tonight. I followed the port forwarding instructions found on this site. Whenever it said DVR in the directions I substituted Apex. Worked the first time. Try it and I hope it works for you.

My problem seems to be that I cannot see my APEX IP address on the network. I can see the Wireless Gaming adapter that it is hooked to but no Apex?

If I could find the apex, it would be a simple set up. I emailed 2 wire and they suggested turning off static IP and go back to DHCP???

If I could find the apex, it would be a simple set up. I emailed 2 wire and they suggested turning off static IP and go back to DHCP???Yes, that should be the right answer. But use the 2Wire's Address Allocation feature (Local Network->Address Allocation) for both the Apex and the WGA so that the 2Wire always hands out the same IP addresses to them. This capability is also called DHCP Reservations, and it combines the advantages of both static and dynamic addressing.

I think we might be on to something. Ok, I will look into this! I may need more help but we might be headed down the right road!

OK, I have entered the Management screen and do not have the address allocation option under Local Network - Only the following: Status, Stats, Device list, Wireless and Configure. ????

It's in the 2701 manual I have. That feature may be disabled in the firmware on your router. It's from AT&T, right?

Check for a firmware update.

Its in the online manual I have as well. I dont see an update available but when I hit the "check for update" link it goes to gateway.2wire.net and that is not a valid site address???

I am so frustrated with this thing!!

Sorry, I was confused. I missed the whole wireless issue. I just went ahead and ran a line from the router to the apex and set it up. I am going to tacke the wireless route at somepoint so I will keep watching here in hopes you find a resolution.

I have an ATT 2-Wire that I was able to get connected via wireless. My Apex is set DHCP = Disabled. You pick an available IP from your 2-Wire's Private Network. My Netmask is 255.255.255.0. My Gateway, Primary and Secondary DNS server is all the same number. The PORT remains 80. I am using an Apple Airport Express for my wireless bridge.

This is the URL to get into my 2-Wire.

http://gateway.2wire.net/xslt?PAGE=A01

Under the Home Network tab you will find an Advanced Settings tab. If you select this option you will see what IP addresses are available to you.

After you get your settings updated in your Apex try locating it by typing the IP address you assigned to the Apex into the URL line of you Browser.
