so on sunday i went to tongs and picked up 5 blue leg hermits,5 snails, and a lawnmower blenny. today i noticed a creature that has not been in my tank before. it looks more like a lobster then a shrimp. it's about 1/4" long and it hiding in the rocks, it popped out superfast when i fed everyone brine shrimp, it has different shades of brown stripes(sort of like a pistol shrimp but not red and white. i will try to get a picture but he's fast and shy. any ideas?

go to an LFS and get the mantis trap from blue life... i think it's from blue life... i had to use it to take out a HUGE 3" pistol shrimp eating my firefish... it's dark brown but still see thru... it has a white screw that you adjust accordingly to set the sensitivity... bait it with a chunk of squid or shrimp, and put it near his cave at night... in the morning just take it out and take him to an LFS...

don't flush it or anything... they're super cool animals... i'm setting up a 24g nano for one in my room... they are super strong animals and are a ton of fun to watch eat... the smash up crabs and snails like nothing... go on youtube and check out some peoples videos... also... put it up on the mantis forum and someone might buy it off you... they're easy to ship... i'm actually looking for a mantis shrimp... i think i might get one this weekend... woot...

good luck taking him out... but don't kill him... not cool...

Very cool! Extreemly smart as well. If you dont get him the first time, he'll know it's a trap as well so good luck.

This one time, in band camp,.....(j/k) On a certification dive with our instructor, he went to show 1 to us and....POW!!! right thru his dive glove and to the bone of his index finger! AWSOME!!! I'll never forget that dive lesson. Their strike is as powerful as a .22 cal bullet...

Check it out..... http://www.seahorse-nw.com/Mantis_Shrimp.html

most likely a neodactlalkdjfklasjdfkl wennerae... LOL... let me look it up...

Neogonodactylus wennerae... trying to remember all these names are a mission... whew...

anyways... this is the common hitch hiker in our hobby... this one is staying in my nano cube... he's pretty cool... mostly red... but they can vary in colors... you could set him up in a small tank with just a heater and a mechanical filter... they don't need anything special... pfft.. these dudes come in live rock that has been out of water for days... they're super hardy...

that one isn't actually mine... i should of said that i have one the same species... LOL... no more watching king of the hill and posting on RC...

and yes... very berry to mint... although i think i'm going to throw in some damsels in there with him... you know... they're bigger faster fish... plus, this type of mantis is a smasher, not a spearer... spearers go after fish all the time... this one destroys other crustations and inverts... pretty awesome...

d1hotblaze -
try tracking it's behavior and locate the hide out. Once you have this information...try to feed it near it's hide out...and once you are definitely sure about it's hiding spots (in the rocks) - remove the rock from your display and poke around the rock to remove the shrimp from the rock...speaking from experience, of course.
