how to clean skimmer

My LFS came and installed my protein skimmer on my new tank last week. They didn't even leave a manual or anything with it.

I know I have to clean the collection cup -- but I feel like a fool because I don't know how to get it off. I have tried pulling on it and twisting it, but I don't want to break anything.

The cup should just pull off, it has a rubber gasket between it and the body, and might be difficult to pull off the first fee times.

Should just twist and pull off try to wiggle it a little to loosen it.

Thanks guys - I just pulled with a little more "oomph" and it came right off.

Good deal! Get a cheap toothbrush and with tap water just give it a good clean inside and out and snap it back on the skimmer and walk away. That easy!

Also clean it as often as you want. I personally clean mine when every 3 days or when there is a half inch to an inch of skimmate in the cup.

and to add to everyone else never use soap
