View Full Version : Mg Supplement Suggestion for 2-part

I'm using Randy's 2-part successfully, but seem to have to use a lot of Mg additive to keep the level of that element up (not that this has anything to do with the recipe, I can probably blame myself for too many corals - if there is such a thing- and mangroves.) I am balancing it with a little bit of epsom salts solution (again per Randy's guidelines) to keep the chloride level down.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a balanced and reasonably strong Mg additive that can be dosed by itself?

Thanks,
Stuart

5 cups of mag chloride + 3 cups of mag sulfate (Epsom Salts) in a total of one gallon with rodi water. Mix and you can add the particles in the solution.

Use the Reef Chemicals Calculator to determine how much you need to add, but don't add more than will raise your mag level by 100 ppm per day.

Thanks a lot Cliff. Do you know if there is a source for the magnesium chloride hexahydrate that comes in smaller quantities than the ice melt chemical? I only have about 20gallons of water. :)

I use the Magnesium chloride sold by Bulk Reef Supply, which is pharmacetical grade (food grade) and is most likely purer then the ice melts.
