Hi all. I have a new 120 gal tank with center overflow. The overflow has two 1.5" drain holes and two 3/4" holes for the returns. If I put a ball valve on one of the drain pipes and adjust it down to get a full siphon, and use the other drain for what's ever left. Wouldn't this work the same as beananimals? If the drain with the valve clogs, the other 1.5" drain can easily handle the full flow. There's a pretty slim to no chance that the 1.5" drain without the valve will clog. That's a pretty large drain.

What you described is the Herbie method.

Beananimal added a third pipe in for increased overflow protection.
