Im trying to dose Mg to treat briprosis.

4 days ago I added enough to bring my levels to 1550... Today its back down to around 1250.

My Ca is 420
Alk is 3.5 meq/l

Is it normal for Mg to deplete this fast? I was under the impression Mg hung around for a while. Will I need to dose daily?

Thanks

Depending on your livestock, your magnesium could be depleting this quickly. Did you do any sort of water change in the last 4 days? Also, once you get it up to the level you want, you should dose at least every other day to try to stabilize the levels. I know this is something I have had to do to keep mine up there.

Here's a good article on magnesium.

livestock can not deplete this fast. maybe a precipitation or test kit error.

Sorry but no, Magnesium takes a long time to deplete even in fully stocked out sps tanks. I would say its a test kit error..

Probably test kit error. There's some speculation that something specifically in kent tech-m kills the bryopsis, not just the magnesium. So if you're not using that and it doesn't work out, I'd give it a shot with the kent stuff.

watch your sulphate levels though...so4 is a major/minor and not anywhere near the same ppm as Mg is. read the articles by randy..the ratio is somethiing like 10:1 chloride:sulphate when dIYing your own Mg additive

Seems to be holding now... Maybe the Bryprosis was consuming it?

use Tech-M for several months, buy galons at a time from F&S.
