What causes an acrylic tank to craze?

Depends on a couple of things. Older acrylic would get old and dry out. Also if an acrylic tank was left out in the sun it would craze.
Tanks kept inside, most of the time it occurs when someone uses an ammonia based product - like Windex - to clean the surface.
Uneven distribution of pressure between joints, and also applying weld-on on top of already pressured spot (very common).
