I bought a custom tank from a manufacturer that for now will remain unamed. There are small cosmetic chips forming on 3 of the 4 panes of glass caused by the polishing and cutting process of the diamond cut edges. This was admitted to myself and the store I purchased the tank from by the manufacturing rep for the company. The choices are recieve a 12.9% refund on the tank or send the tank back to be rebuilt. I dont have anywhere suitable to store the coral, fish, sand and rock for the 1-1.5 months it will take to tear the tank down, get it back to the store, have the store ship it to the manufacturer, be rebuilt, cure, and be shipped back to the store. I am also not sure what to do because I am with 2 more moves I am going to start losing corals, fish and inverts that will quickly eclipse the original cost of the tank. The owner of the store was blown away that is all the manufacturer was prepared to offer considering the costs involved with shipping, materials, and labor to replace 3 of the 4 panes of glass. So what would you do?

I would be concerned that if these chips are forming, that means that the pressure along the edge of the tank is changing under load. I would be worried that what is causing a chip now, could cause a crack later.
I would think having the tank properly remade would be the safest option.

Make sure your house insurance covers water damage and is paid up. :furious:
I would fix it now... and be able to sleep at night.

I would send it in as well. But not before I determined that this was definitely my best option. I'd push to have the entire tank replaced before I sent mine in, so that I could transfer to a new tank, then send the old one in. Tell the company that without them replacing the damaged tank first, it would be the last tank you ever bought from them, not to mention you'd share the entire miserable experience you had with them with every reef forum you could come across.

Having them send out another tank and send mine back in is a good idea. They are pretty much rebuilding the whole tank anyway. No matter how I decide it is pretty much a pain in the arse anyway. What I believe is happening to the tank is that small stress points were created at the corners of the diamond edge. When the tank was filled the glass moves a little as all tanks do and that moving caused little chips to pop off over the next few days. None of the seams are comprimised in any way.

X 1 million send it back. You can always buy a stock/rubber made tub to house everything in until you get your new and improved tank back from MFG.
