so my tank jumped from 78 to 90 two days ago, ouch. ive managed to get it back to 80, and i dont have a chiller. a few months ago i went to my buildings storage facilities and my a/c was gone, someone stole it !
so i dont have a/c when this heat comes. so ive added ice slowly to a hob filter on my tank, i dont have a sump. but i did manage to find a new a/c yesterday for 30 bucks:beer:. tanks doing ok now with the exception of a little bleaching but i did lose two leathers, my sun polyps and one head of frogspawn. really weird tho, i have a huge population of those tiny astria or whatever starfish, and when it was hot they were everywhere but in the rocks where they normally are. my blue starfish was eating them, i thought they were climbing on him until i tried knocking one of of him but he was pulling it towards its mouth with its little arm tenticles. and my haddoni carpet was huge.....anyone els around ontario have any issues

I'm visiting my relatives in Mississauga and I naturally went and visited the LFS (bigals) and I noticed some of their coral tank temps. They were at 86-91! I was surprised needless to say. But I know how it is since I live in Florida and my tank hits 80 when its 100+ degrees. Yikes

Boys,
To be honest it's your own fault. History will repeat itself and Ontario gets freekin hot in the summer months. If are not prepared to deal with this issues than get out of the hobby. Any home in Ontario that is not air conditioned can reach 90+ degrees in any given year.
Sorry to be rude but this is the kind of stuff that burns me. We are not ignorant people!!! Please use some common sense. if you have to struggle to find a used AC for 30 bucks I imagine you do a water chance every 3 years. Please consider the environment in the tank and sure keeping your mates safe.
My AC blew up 2 months ago and I made 100% sure it was fixed immediately. My tank have never been over 80 degrees.
Sorry again for the outburst.... but you need to realize that Canada has 4 seasons. We don't live in igloos!

Buy a fan. Blow it across the top of your tank.

Yes, he should have predicted someone would steal his AC. jeez
+1
Chill out there bud lucky. We all don't have bags of money like you to just go out and grab a new ac right away. I'm in Toronto and dont have any problem with over heating. tank is always at 79.
Chill out Lucky.

No bags on money guys. Sorry for the outburst... I just hate to hear these stories. We just need to make sure we prepare our tanks for these situations. It's no different than leaving your Dog in the car in the middle of the summer.
I was into the Scotch last ight and I get angry when I drink that stuff. You were my target. lol.
I just wanted to get my message across.

Even though they say the hot weather is going to last for at least the rest of the month, you might consider reducing your lighting or running your lights during the cooler parts of the day. Those cheap clip on fans can also be a life saver.
I think I'm one of the lucky ones, my tank is in the basement and right now its a balmy 70F (21C) down there. The heater actually kicks on when the halides are off.

I know you pain Johnwayne. I came home from a couple days away on Tues morning to find my apartment hovering above 90 degrees and the same with my tank. I had an A/C in my window, but the power had gone out while I was gone and it didn't turn back on.
The only thing I lost was my one sps to RTN. A couple of the others started bleaching but haven't all the way.
I immediately unplugged the heater, sat the emergency fan on the AC70 and put it on high, put cooler water in the tank and ice on the egg crate on top. Turned the lights off and got the A/C running after running an extension cord to my range plug in, so when the neighbours decide to plug too much stuff in, my A/C won't go out again.
My GSP is still po'd, as are my duncans but they are coming around.

Sorry, I have to disagree.
Having spent the last number of years in Edmonton, I can accurately state that they have only two seasons...winter and construction.

HAHAAHAHH lol
Get a Pykrete going to cool your tank. Last longer than regular ice.

Yes. It isfragalot.ca. I had a very bad experience with him shipping ***s and not resolving issues. If you buy from him drve up to his place and get them dirctly.
